Like many of you, I'm skeptical of advertising claims, but I've got some cool news for the 6ARC Army. 

Yes, Hornady, claimed that 6mmARC was developed at the request of a Department of Defense (DOD) entity. And, yes, we want to think that Hornady is not outright lying to the public for the sake of marketing their new cartridge.

So, like anything the corrupt Mainstream Media establishment says these days, I assume marketing claims are not really true until independently verified.

Turns out Hornady wasn't lying.

In a Military Arms Channel Youtube video, there is a short mention starting at 14:10 that the SEALs are, indeed, using 6mmARC. For video, click HERE.

I watched pretty much all of it, there are several places where the 6Arc figures into the discussion. Seems to me it might be the whole reason the mod thinks it's time to move on from the 556....
Seals like it b/c it moves their lethal range out to 600-800 yds, is what these guys are being told by their contact.

Does the 6mm ARC have a designated government model number? 55gn FMJ, 5.56x45mm NATO is M193 & the 147gn FMJ, 7.62x51mm NATO is M80. Is there a government issue MXXX for the ARC? What bullet do the SEALs use in their issued ARC ammo?

....I found the podcast to be an interesting one. As a whole all 3 agreed on the increased capabilities of the 6ARC cartridge over the 556 cartridge in CQB & distant engagement ranges for military usage.

....what I found really interesting was the perspective of the "economic" realities presented by the salesman relative to the 223/556 civilian market, especially of quantity of rounds produced for the consumer market, and not just the USA market (which is the LARGEST). Some of the numbers of suspected civilian AR15's bandied about in the conversation were "impressive", even if the numbers used were exaggerated, it was still a telling piece of info.

Old Bob, I'm pretty sure when they say, even as confirmed by a SEAL himself, that the 6mmARC is being "used" what they mean is it's being "tested," so I doubt it yet has any government designation.

I'm trying to piece together the whole picture from open source tidbits.

My take away on this is if this really takes off in the military application this would happen over a lengthly time in all likelihood. My take is is there is a great potential for the 6mm ARC to compliment the 5.56 more so than replace the 5.56 at least for starters. Domestic market has the great potential to influence this market even more than any military application mid & long term.

IMHO bottom line 6mm ARC does a lot of jobs better from many perspective. Yet pricing/cost plays a big factor. for many as long as 5.56 & 7.629 are cheaper, the masses will be slow to move towards the more expensive ammo despite the superiority in terms of utility in knock down power & accuracy near & far.

I for one like the cartridge for the utility in a mini bolt action rifle for deer & varmint hunting. Guess I am a bit of a weird duck in that my comfort zone is not a AR rifle. Still time for that to change though I am not getting any younger. Then I am no longer main stream. Currently the AR has a greater wow factor for our newer shooters from my observations.

CZ, pricing certainly is a factor. I think Grendel boomed when it did because of cheap Wolf ammo. I was just comparing ammo prices, and 556/762R are at, oh, 60¢ per round, while 6ARC is at $2.00 round. Price is a big factor in the overall market.

yep, most people want to plink, so then you reload your own or need cheap plinking ammo. Right now, I reload using Barnes Varmint Grenade and AA2520 powder …  ends up about .70 per round, I think.

....TBH, even purchasing components to reload 6ARC isn't all that "low cost" in the current supply market.

How are the Barnes Varmint Grenades? I shot a raccoon with one of Sierras varmint bullets and I swear it was like the raccoon swallowed a grenade. Almost nothing left of the raccoon. I love the Barnes 112gn 6mm match burners for my Unitah upper.

I use the Barnes VG for shooting steel at close range without damage to the targets. They are pretty good for that. For varmints I plan on using Nosler Ballistic Tip 70 gr Varmint bullets.

I noticed on Giselle’s Website they sell 6 ARC Mags, they are expensive! So I’m sure they wouldn’t be making mags unless they did so for the Military.
