1/4 mile match - BD1 - 10-30-2024 After getting the rifle a little more sorted out, I was able to win my first match with it. This is a monthly, (may through October), match at my local club shot from the bench at 440 yards. Five sighters, then three 10 shot strings which are scored individually allowing for sight adjustments between strings. Not a great target, but it was enough to win on that day. The two in the 8 ring are all me. RE: 1/4 mile match - Rickhem - 11-04-2024 Congrats! That is some good shooting, and based on your OAL, probably from an AR based rifle too. Only dropping 11 points from a possible 300 sounds pretty good to me. What target do you use for these matches? Looks like the 600 reduced target, but not sure if it's reduced to 200 or 300. RE: 1/4 mile match - alwie - 11-04-2024 What are the rifle specs? Barrel Length? Gas/Bolt? MV for the load? RE: 1/4 mile match - BD1 - 11-05-2024 The targets are NRA 100 yard military targets. They are using them just because they have a pile of them on hand. The Black is 5-1/4" and the 10 ring is 3-1/4" . My rifle is a 22" Craddock RTR barrel on a good quality upper I put together with a Luth-AR wide body handguard and a night force benchrest scope. I'm using the same rifle lower that I used for High Power years ago, and these matches last year, because I'm very used to it, it has a good trigger and the pocket for a lead weight in the buttstock. It is a specifically built target rifle. I have other rifles for hunting. RE: 1/4 mile match - Rickhem - 11-09-2024 Thanks for the info. Now I see that thing at the bottom of the pic is a tape measure, and I have better perspective. Still, great shooting with a group of <3" at 440 yards. I wish my local club would run some competitions like this. Or anything actually. They have a number of shoots but everything is "for fun" and even though they give out scoresheets, nobody collects them and nothing is tabulated. I actually don't care where I come out, as long as they run them regularly, I can gauge some progress I might make, and compare how others dealt with the same conditions. |
