Nosler 100gr Partiton Bullets - Old Bob - 12-27-2020
Has anyone done any work with Nosler 100gr 6mm partitions bullets? I'm wondering about seating depth. The partitions are not as sleek as the 103gr ELD-X bullets I've already loaded to fit in my magazines. I did load a few of the partitions to fit my mags, but because of their blunter shape, it's looking like they might be set out too long & maybe contact the lands when chambered.
I have the Hornady 6mm ARC modified case for determining bullet seating depth but no barrel yet (maybe to arrive soon after 01/21... I hope!). I'm thinking I'll go ahead & finish my ladders with the bullets at mag depth & then re-seat them again later if I have to.
In the pic, the Nosler bullet is on the left. The bullet on the right is Hornady factory ammo 108gr ELD-M.

With my faxon 20" barrel I load the 103 eldx to 2.250. The Hodgdon mag 2021, says the partition Coal is 2.150, in their barrel. It definitely will be seated deeper than the eldx, maybe down to 2.150, however of course it's easier to seat deeper than to pull it out a bit. My guess is it would be less than 2.200.
I do the 95 Nosler BT's at 2.200, they are kinda stubby too. In your pic I bet there's not much shank of the partition inside that neck...

I wouldn't seat any bullets until you get your barrel, that way you can measure your chamber and get a good idea as to were you need to be. I have seen many variation in chamber size, and finding the correct length of the cartridge is critical of this round as other folks as well as me have found out. I have three 6 ARC barrel and they all vary in size, the tightest being an Odin match barrel followed very close by a Faxon barrel. Hornady 105 bullets were a big problem at first, some folks claiming that the bullet pulled out of the case spewing powder all over the place. Hornady has since remedied the problem by seating the bullet deeper by .045, which is a lot of seating depth for factory loads.

Seat them long and when your barrel arrives, make your measurements. It should be quick work to run them through your seating die a second time and shorten them to the appropriate length.

The base of the bullet is right at the junction of the neck & shoulder.
Even with no barrel yet I've been getting ladders ready for when it does arrive. I have ladders with 4 different powders & 103gr ELD-X bullets as well as the one with the Nosler bullet. The powders I'm using are AA2520, Leverevolution, CFE 223 & Shooters World Match. My brass is all resized Lapua & AA 6.5 Grendel brass. I'm just doing stuff to keep busy while I wait.
Even after I get my barrel, my wait to shoot it will be a bit longer. Tuesday I'm having cataract surgery on my right eye & then two weeks later it will be my left eye. I finally might get to the rifle range by the end of January or early February.
Feeling a bit anxious. Shoulda had this done last year after I retired...

The cataract surgery is definitely worth it. I’ve had it, a few yrs ago, the wife more recently. Clears up your vision a bunch. The technology of the replacement lenses has come a long way in the past few years.
