Berger 115gr VLD Target - GregP42 - 05-30-2021 Hey guys, Has anyone tried these heavy 115gr Berger VLDs in the ARC yet? I picked up a box at my LGS because he had them, and at a reasonable price for Berger bullets. I dropped Berger an email Thursday, but figure it will take a week or two if I hear back from them. So if anyone has any load data I would love to hear what your thinking. Greg RE: Berger 115gr VLD Target - Dino11 - 05-30-2021 Although my data is limited, my chrono was giving me some trouble this session. temp 70* altitude 1085 humidity 65% Hornady brass 2.300 OAL 1.718 CBTO 30.0 grain Lever 2677 adv FPS sd 6.2 This was in a bolt gun and the 3 shot groups were .4 and 5 shot groups were .5 at 100 yards. They shoot very well out of a bolt rifle, I don't think I would use them in a gas gun. But they would probably shoot pretty good if you can get them to chamber on the long side of OAL. This bullet is pretty long and should be loaded longer than 2.300, a lot of bullet sticking into the case even at max mag length. I have since percured some Berger 109 LRHPBT to try which will probably do better at long distance. I don't have a lot of testing behind the 115's, I was going to use them to attempt the mile. But I think the 109's will fit the bill better, as I can get more velocity out of them. I will have to push a heavy bullet around 2800 FPS to make that work. RE: Berger 115gr VLD Target - GregP42 - 05-30-2021 Dino, I will have to seat them to 2.275 OAL with the AR Stoner mags I have. That is .025 shorter than what you thought should be the minimum length. I was thinking starting at 28gr of Lever and going to maybe 29gr as a max for a gas gun. I figure I will load them in .2 steps, do 3 of each to see what the brass looks like and see what speed I can get out of them. My rifle has a 20" barrel from the batch that BFT had on scratch and dent sale. Still haven't seen what he thought was bad on it. I will try this out this week if I get a chance. Greg |
