Bullet Comparisons- Bgr 95, RDF 105, Hdy 108 ELDN - r.tenorio671 - 11-01-2021 ...as my components SLOWWWLLLLY trickle in I capture data on the bullets, some of which I share so others can get an idea before they drop dollars on something "sight unseen". The data that I share is "generic" in nature, everybody's individual barrel differs. ..the image below is of 3 bullets that indicate where the base of the bullet would be if that specific bullet was seated to a COAL of approximately 2.255" to fit in virtually any magazine used in a gasser. The image gives an idea of how much of the powder space would be affected for that bullet if seated to that COAL. The tips of the bullets are aligned at the 2.255" COAL of the dummy cartridge on right with a 105RDF seated. CAVEAT: Depending on the actual ogive type of the bullet, seating to a max COAL of 2.260 for magazine fit MAY NOT be possible, the chamber dimensions of individual barrels influence that. As an example, the bullet on the far left is the Berger 95gn Hunter Classic with a Hybrid Ogive and the "touch" point of that bullets ogive in MY BARREL is approximately 1.731". If that bullet is loaded to 2.255 the ogive will be at approximately 1.785", a 0.054 jam into the lands of MY BARREL, definitely not good for pressure! For MY barrel, that bullet has to be seated deeper..... YMMV Bullets left to right: Berger 95 Classic Hunter, Nosler 105 RDF, Hornady 108 ELD-M, seated 105 RDF. I was going to buy some today, picked them up off the shelf and damn near had a stroke. 89.99 for a box of 50... no thanks. After tax that almost 2.00 a bullet. no thanks. After tax that almost 2.00 a bullet. I have loaded the Berger 115's to mag length without issue and shot them out to 1200 yards with good accuracy. But so far to date the Nosler 105 RDF and the Berger 109 LRBT are my favorites. The Hornady 105's don't shoot to bad either, with a hand load. Hornady's load pressures are all over the place with the factory loads. And I don't know why my reply is in black font either, sure made it had to read. Any experience with them? ....none, and at $1 + per bullet most likely not going to unless I get one of them wild hairs ...seriously tho, between my intended usage and my actual hardware the A-Tips wouldn't be a compatible fit. IMHO, the A-Tips are a better fit for +22" barrels in both gas & bolt platforms dedicated to precision... I'm just a run of the mill plinker RE: Bullet Comparisons- Bgr 95, RDF 105, Hdy 108 ELDN - popgun - 11-03-2021 The OAL to touch the lands in the three bullets I've tried in my gas gun barrel Berger 109 Hybrid 2.330 Hornady 108 ELD-M 2.285 Hornady 105 BTHP 2.230 I might get some Berger 108 BT Targets and going by specs off of Bergers website it should have about a OAL of 2.245 to touch the lands. |
