103gr ELD-X LEVERevolution Howa Mini - Bill - 02-18-2022 With deer hunting season starting up shortly round my way I thought I finally develop a load with some heavier projectiles which I have managed to avoid so far LOL. Not many choices at my local gun shops so I grabbed a box of Hornady 103gr ELD-X. I have LVR and CFE223 on hand so I chose the best speedy powder and knocked out 8 different charge weights. Seating depth I just went off a gut feeling after looking at the recommended COL on the Hornady website. As this is to be a hunting load I shot off a Harris bipod. Howa Mini 6mm ARC (ex Grendel), Bartlein 1:8 22inch, Sightron Stac 4-16, Howa Kryteck stock, harris bipod. Hornady 6mm ARC brass 1.485, Rem 7.5, 103gr ELD-X, LEVERevolution, 2.220 COL Charge Velocity Average 29.4 2758 2780 2746 2761 29.6 2789 2790 2791 2790 29.8 2807 2807 2807 2807 best Group 30.0 2815 2828 2822 2821 2nd 30.2 2839 2841 2842 2441 30.4 2863 2839 2852 2851 30.6 2856 2876 2864 2865 30.8 2882 2868 2860 2870 Max load according to Hornady As you can see the 103gr ELD-X LVR combo is a very good one, and yes the Magneto speed recorded 3 exactly the same speeds for the 29.8gr load, as you can see 29.6 and 30.2 were also ridiculously similar. I kind wished I used the proper rest they had at the range but I wanted to use the bipod. I think Ill be stocking up on these 103gr ELD-X's RE: 103gr ELD-X LEVERevolution Howa Mini - r.tenorio671 - 02-19-2022 ...some good info, thanks for sharing! RE: 103gr ELD-X LEVERevolution Howa Mini - shooter545 - 02-19-2022 I agree that is good info. I happened to have a good bit of Lever and those 103s, just haven't gotten around to loading some. I think that I will give them a go. RE: 103gr ELD-X LEVERevolution Howa Mini - r.tenorio671 - 02-20-2022 IMHO, the groups for 29.8 thru 30.4 have very similar vertical & horizontal "point of impact", with 29.8 thru 30.2 possibly indicating a node. If it was me, I'd be targeting for the 29.8 and with the plus/minus variations that may occur with power drops/throws from a progressive press it would most likely still be within the node. |
