Unknown Brand Factory Second 6mm Bullet - Old Bob - 04-10-2022 Anyone have an idea who makes this bullet? I searched for a comparable bullet made by Sierra, Remington, Hornady & Nosler. The closest was Hornady's 95gn SST but it has a red tip, not green like these. Does Hornady put different colored tips in their factory second bullets? Neither Sierra or Nosler have a flat based 6mm, 95gn bullet. Nosler tips are violet in 6mm. [attachment=509] [attachment=510] RE: Unknown Brand Factory Second 6mm Bullet - r.tenorio671 - 04-10-2022 ...may have been a "custom" special order run of SST's for a specific customer ? The "2nds" may have been the ones used to set up the tooling or initial run for the tips & bodies. If they fly good and give acceptable performance the appearances won't matter, let us know your findings. RE: Unknown Brand Factory Second 6mm Bullet - grayfox - 04-10-2022 When it's a blem common practice to use a different color tip... keeps them clearly recognizable as not honest QC-passed "factory"... they are blems. Yes it's most likely a hornady 6mm 95 sst blem. that's the only flat cannelure tipped 95-er I know of out there. RE: Unknown Brand Factory Second 6mm Bullet - Old Bob - 04-10-2022 If these bullets are truly Hornady SSTs, except for the green tip, they seem absolutely perfect! They aren't tarnished at all & the 25 piece sample I weighed ran 94.6 to 94.8gns. Only a .2gn spread in weight is pretty dog-gone good for any bullet. I saw no variations or damage anywhere in the sample I looked at. They have no blems that I can see. I do accept that these bullets probably are Hornady "custom" over-runs. Once I get some once-fired brass, these bullets will be the first ones I'll run a ladder with. I just need to get out & do some shooting. Since the pandemic started, I hadn't pulled a trigger with live ammo until this last Wednesday at an indoor range. Now I need to find a day I can get out to the R & P club outdoor range. RE: Unknown Brand Factory Second 6mm Bullet - Bill - 04-10-2022 Hornady make custom bullets for a number of manufacturers and this this looks alot like the Sellior & Bellot 95gr PTS https://www.sellier-bellot.cz/en/products/rifle-ammunition/hunting-rifle-ammunition-with-pts-bullets/detail/237/ RE: Unknown Brand Factory Second 6mm Bullet - CZ527 Guy - 04-10-2022 (04-10-2022, 09:34 AM)Bill Wrote: Hornady make custom bullets for a number of manufacturers and this this looks alot like the Sellior & Bellot 95gr PTSIf this is the same as the Hornady 95 gr SST then Hornady & S&B calculate BC 1 a little differently S&B suggest that the 95 gr PTS bullet offers a BC of .373. Whereas Hornady list their 95 gr SST with a G! BC of .355 https://www.sellier-bellot.cz/en/products/rifle-ammunition/hunting-rifle-ammunition-with-pts-bullets/detail/237/ https://www.hornady.com/bullets/rifle/6mm-243-95-gr-sst#!/ RE: Unknown Brand Factory Second 6mm Bullet - grayfox - 04-10-2022 I saw that BC thing too. Looking closer at the S&B maybe they are not the same. The S&B seems to have more curve in its ogive, and can't tell but possibly doesn't have the cannelure. A 0.373 for a 6mm-95 suggests some boat tail inside to, to me. Kind of like the Nosler 95 shape... |
