Barrel Twist ? - Bassfish1952 - 07-05-2022

Looking at Hornady Bullets
90GR ELDX.  says 1-10" min recommended
and
103GR ELDX   says 1-8" min recommended

80GR CX
85GR Interbond
90GR CX and
95GR SST
Have nothing about twist at all

I ordered my barrel with 1-7.5" twist because at the time I thought that was same as their test barrel. Should I have ordered something else ?
Again at the time I was planning on using Hornady 103GR ELDX factory loads, Now maybe try reloading if so it will be the CX 90Gr or some other lighter bullet

Thanks

Your 1-7.5" twist barrel should be good for bullets up to 110grs. That's the twist rate I have in my two 6 ARC barrels. The heaviest bullets I'll probably ever use are Hornady 108gr. ELDMs which have a suggested 1-8" twist rate.

How does the 1-7.5 do for lighter ones , have you had experience with them ?

I've done the 90 eldx and the 90 tgk, in 1:7.5 and they fly great. More accurate than I am.
A few 6 Arc barrels have come out in 1:8, I've also seen 1:7.7, I think even 1:7...

short answer your 1:7.5 is gtg for sure.

When I saw both the ELDX rounds with a recommended twist it made me wonder.

Twist rate - a lot has to do with the length of the bullet.
The 103 of course being longer than the 90.
JBM has twist rate calculator, usually it shows the bullet mfr is a bit conservative -- but you'd expect that. lawyers and all.
