Nosler 55gr BT Power Pro Varmint - Bill - 08-25-2022

So my bloody Magnetospeed isnt working just when I need it ......

My Howa Mini 6mm Arc has had a holiday recently this year as I've been playing with my 357 magnum, 22-250, 25-35W and 6.5x55, this week I stumbled across so Alliant Power Pro Varmint so I grabbed a few Lbs with the idea of pushing some 55gr NBT as fast as I could.

Hornady 58gr Vmax data shows 3550fps for top load and with the 5% lighter 55gr BT I'm hoping for 3750fps plus, mostly likely around 3800fps as the barrel is about 40fps quicker with other loads and I have gone for 34.0gr of PPVarmint.

Just hoping to find an accurate node as Ive got a new Rabbit/Fox property that needs to be introduced to the ARC.

Range session on the weekend

Talking 3550-ish, I assume you have a bolt action barrel...?

I don't look at weight variations as a % difference, rather as pure weight vs. MV trade-off, from physics F=ma. For most of the small weight deltas, 0.5 grs usually translates for the bullets I'm using to 50 fps give or take. Under this line of thought you might see 3600-3630 under your proposed setup.

PPV is a nice powder, I've used it for a couple bullets.

Yeah grayfox who knows what speed I'll get cause maybe a longer barrel is reqd, ill send my magento speed back to the distributor to get the sensor replaced, really not a fan of range session without a chronograph thou Im sure the other range users will tell me how loud the rifle is as its an indoor range

How loud...??
That's what ear muffs/plugs are for.

Screaming eagles LOL a couple of newbies turned up and got to listen to my last 5 rounds, we have carpeted partition boards seperating benches so the noise does get around, I run plugs and ear muffs and this thing had a fair bark today.

discovered Power Pro Varmint is a very very good clean powder,  almost no Carbon build up after 35 rounds,  Velocity was definitely well north of 3600 fps and it felt more like 3800fps thou I wont be able to confirm for a few week.  I shot my 22-250 with 55gr at 3600fps the week before.

I had to knock back my seating depth with a hand press after an average start and groups tightened immediately,  2.100 for COL still 0.015 more than the advertised 2.085 Hornady advises for the 58gr Vmax.

No mention of your barrel length Or if we are talking about a bolt or gas gun. Keep us posted. Are you using a suppressor?

Hey CZ527 just a rebarreled Howa Mini with a 22 inch Bartlein SS tube, runs around 30-40fps faster than advertised Hornaday Velocity. built it a few years ago and have run 55gr, 64gr, 65gr, 68gr, 72gr, 90gr, 103gr and 105gr bullets down it.

Understand!

Feel the same way about my re-barreled CZ527 with the 22" Pac-Nor barrel. This Pac-nor barrel is also a fast barrel.
