  Grocery Hunting

Good morning, went grocery/deer hunting yesterday. It was about 27 degrees with overcast sky's and some sleet and snow flurries around but not enough to stick. I was using my 6mm arc and the only ammo I currently have. 108g ELD match, was hunting thick woods so any shot opportunity would be less than 100y. Had 2 come by about 9:30 so and decided to shoot the 4pt. Both deer were 1.5 year olds and was surprised to see bucks running together, suspect being young and possibly brothers they didn't mind the competition. The shot was about 60-65y. I shot a little high for heart so it was a double lung pass through of coarse. busted 1 rib going in and about 1/2 dollar size exit. If I was hunting fields or longer shots I don't know how well the 108g would perform but more than likely it would still kill deer. About any bullet besides a varmit will drop a deer with a high shoulder shot but have seen those go wrong before so not my first choice. Will have some better hunting ammo before next season but will do some water jug testing at 100&200y with these just to find out if they are to hard to expand. I don't think they are too soft for close shots but it bloodied about a 10" circle on both sides and the pass through a good hole. reckon I will look at the ballistics of the 103 and 105g and see which has the best then see which 1 it likes. I really liked seeing the deer in the scope with little muzzle flip. Been shooting my 300wm for a lot of years and you don't see much of the deer reaction when you shoot, season is winding down and that was only the 2nd and 3rd deer I have seen in the woods this season. I have hunted less this year than the last 30 due to health and loss of hunting places. Hope everybody has a Merry Christmas and happy New year, stay safe.

Took the new 6mm arc out today for a little pig action. I decided to load my main hunting round, 100gr Sierra SBT last and load several 55 Nosler BT first. We have a lot of coyote's so I figured I would use the 55's first.

Well pigs showed up a little earlier than normal. I went ahead and used the 55 Nosler BT and man, not even a step.  Both dropped right where they stood. Not even a twitch. I really did not know what to expect out of a varmint projectile but I was very pleased with the performance. I may just use them again since they shoot so good.

Had to flip the smaller pig over to take the pic, it was quartering away and there was a baseball size exit wound. Both shots were right at 100 yds.

  110 SMK - Load Data?
Posted by: ReddyToGo - 12-15-2024, 03:58 AM - Forum: 6mmARC Ammunition and Reloading - Replies (2)

I have some 110 SMK for my 6mm creed and would like to see if they will work for 6ARC. Anyone try these? What powder and load data. I'm looking at either LVR or possibly AA2520.

I just built an upper using the Rexus 20" barrel 6arc and I am currently measuring the jam on some of my projectiles. For me, my 110 SMK jam Ogive to Base measures 1.697 that puts the COAL out to about 2.354.  At mag length 2.28, that would give me about 70 thousands jump.

For the fun of it, I put 27.9 grains of LVR into a fired 6mm arc cartridge and inserted the 110 SMK and measured the actual length at 2.26 which I would consider to be 100% case capacity at magazine length.

I am not sure if 27.9 grains would be too hot, but it would be nice if it worked. I believe part of the challenges we face with LVR, being dirty, moderate ES are due to not filling the case enough. In my experience LVR works best at near 100% case capacity.

Anyone running the 110 SMK with LVR?

New to the arc and hand loading. Picked up a howa mini as a project.

I shoot deer with copper bullets. Anyone work up a good load with temp stable powder at bolt gun pressures using the 95gr Barnes lrx?

  New from Texas

I would like to introduce myself. My name is Charles, I'm currently retired. I am from the Lone Star State of Texas, southeast region.

My primary usage for the 6arc would be a varmint gun. I have shot the 6.5 Grendel for many years, for sport but primarily for hunting. Have taken a lot of game with the Grendel.

I do have some experience with the AR platform in various calibers and thought it was time to venture out into the 6arc.

Looking to converse with those who has some 6 arc experience, to learn, to increase my knowledge around the 6arc to understand what works and what does not, and to share some of my experiences with those like minded folks.
