Lapua 90gr Scenar - Bill - 03-14-2021 With loads of rain and time on my hands I took the opportunity to load up some 90gr Lapua Scenar yesterday, got to the range early and let em rip. New brass Hornady brass filled up with LVR, I used Hornadys bolt gun COL for the 90gr GMXs. Wasnt shooting my best ( hungover) but the Lapua's showed a bit of potential, 50m indoor range. 6mm ARC brass virgin, 1.482, Rem 7.5, LVR, Lapua 90gr Scenar, 2.245 Charge Velocity 30.8 2935 2904 2927 2916 2934 31.1 2938 2944 2980 2974 2967 31.4 2974 - - - - lost the data as the magnetospeed logged back to 1 31.7 3020 3015 3003 3030 3045 32.0 3066 3044 3028 3030 3060 32.3 3063 3089 3057 3059 3070 Not a lot of pressure signs showing, Primer were good not flattened and no ejector marks, no stiff bolt lift. RE: Lapua 90gr Scenar - Lemonaid - 03-14-2021 Nice write up, great pics. Thanks! Just to avoid confusion, what barrel length, and action type? RE: Lapua 90gr Scenar - Bill - 03-14-2021 Hey Lemonaid I conervted my Grendel Howa Mini action, 22 inch barrel RE: Lapua 90gr Scenar - Bill - 05-07-2021 Found a little more accuracy, still at 50m RE: Lapua 90gr Scenar - Lemonaid - 05-08-2021 Looks like happiness. RE: Lapua 90gr Scenar - Bill - 05-08-2021 thats 5 bullets lemonaid, Yeap 90grs seem to be a real sweet spot for the 1:8 twist. Ive been trying 90gr Nosler BT recently and almost every load is 0.6 MOA for 5 shots. Took a nice white Fallow buck recently with the NBT recently too. RE: Lapua 90gr Scenar - skyrep - 05-08-2021 Bill, you will find the coal of 2.245 is good when you reach out to 100 yds and out further. I've been using AR-COMP (2995 FPS and SD of 3.7) groups were less than half inch. Also CFE223 got me higher velocity = 3038 fps and SD of 9.6 with groups of also in the half inch. However, i am using Lapua Brass with BR4 Primers. RE: Lapua 90gr Scenar - Bill - 05-08-2021 Yeah Ive thought about using BR4 primer, Hornady brass is holding up OK. My SD aint as tight as yours thou, I recently started using a Redding powder thrower but it wasnt with these loads. RE: Lapua 90gr Scenar - grayfox - 06-17-2021 Skyrep, interested in your AR Comp load range for those 90 grainers... And which rifle/barrel length, AR or bolt...? I have plenty of ARc and a few different 90's to try, working up and adjusting for OAL and such... thanks. RE: Lapua 90gr Scenar - skyrep - 06-17-2021 [attachment=265]Grayfox Rifle: Savage 10 bolt gun in a GRS Stock. 24" Shaw Barrel 1-7 twist I've test a few powders (CFE223, 8208XBR, AR-Comp) CFE223 got me the highest FPS (3038 FPS with SD of 9.6) 8208XBR (2995 FPS with SD of 5.6) AR-Comp (2925 FPS with SD of 3.7) All were with Lapua Brass and BR4 Primers. All loaded to 2.245 COAL. I did the Satterlee method and have worked out for me very well (less components used). |
