With loads of rain and time on my hands I took the opportunity to load up some 90gr Lapua Scenar yesterday, got to the range early and let em rip. New brass Hornady brass filled up with LVR, I used Hornadys bolt gun COL for the 90gr GMXs.
Wasnt shooting my best ( hungover) but the Lapua's showed a bit of potential, 50m indoor range.
thats 5 bullets lemonaid, Yeap 90grs seem to be a real sweet spot for the 1:8 twist.
Ive been trying 90gr Nosler BT recently and almost every load is 0.6 MOA for 5 shots. Took a nice white Fallow buck recently with the NBT recently too.
Bill, you will find the coal of 2.245 is good when you reach out to 100 yds and out further. I've been using AR-COMP (2995 FPS and SD of 3.7) groups were less than half inch. Also CFE223 got me higher velocity = 3038 fps and SD of 9.6 with groups of also in the half inch. However, i am using Lapua Brass with BR4 Primers.
Yeah Ive thought about using BR4 primer, Hornady brass is holding up OK. My SD aint as tight as yours thou, I recently started using a Redding powder thrower but it wasnt with these loads.
Skyrep, interested in your AR Comp load range for those 90 grainers...
And which rifle/barrel length, AR or bolt...?
I have plenty of ARc and a few different 90's to try, working up and adjusting for OAL and such...
Grayfox
Rifle: Savage 10 bolt gun in a GRS Stock. 24" Shaw Barrel 1-7 twist
I've test a few powders (CFE223, 8208XBR, AR-Comp)
CFE223 got me the highest FPS (3038 FPS with SD of 9.6)
8208XBR (2995 FPS with SD of 5.6)
AR-Comp (2925 FPS with SD of 3.7)
All were with Lapua Brass and BR4 Primers.
All loaded to 2.245 COAL. I did the Satterlee method and have worked out for me very well (less components used).
