Lapua 6.5 Grendel Brass
#1
i have some 6.5 grendel brass ready for re-sizing once i finaly get my dies.

Does anyone have good advice for the small flash holes in the Lapua Brass,
I dont really just want to punch my decapping pin through the small hole, is there a small decapping pin for the Lee universal decapper?

there is a small pin, not sure where you get it, but other forums have brought this up, so I know they are out there.
Most pins will go into the decapping rod but again, not sure on Lee.

Another thought, there is a universal decapper (Frankford maybe? look on amazon), hand-held, does not do resizing, you could put the small pin in that, then take the decapping rod out of your Lee die.

Sounds like a lot of troubleSmile perhaps you would like to trade that Lapua brass for Starline brass. Or you could give this link below a look.

Hope you have some top of the line lube like Imperial sizing wax. Lee is not known for the smoothest surface finishes. This in turn tends to cause more friction Thus more or higher quality lube can be advantageous. Another consideration may be to lap that die.

May be beneficial to research how to polish your sizing die. I have polishes RCBS dies B4 for sizing 17 fireball to good effect.

Though the best polish I have experienced with a sizing die has been the mighty Armory 6mm ARC sizing die. Not sure what they do but the results are amazing.

Hi CZ
I have Hornady Match Dies on order,  The Lee is just my Universal Decapper, which i normaly decapp ALL my shot brass with to keep my sizing dies clean Smile .
And i think i will use Imperial wax on the Grendel anyway,  (at least untill i can master the 6.5 to 6mm size down technique sorted ).

Alcohol+lanolin case lube is amazing.
And easy to apply.

I just put the brass in a plastic bin, spray a few times and then mix the brass around until the alcohol evaporates off.

Easy to lube 50 or 100 pieces.

Once I started using this stuff, my paste wax sits in a drawer.

I drilled mine out. I measured the diameter of my decapper pin on my Hornady die, picked the matching drill bit out of my set and went to town. I used my flash hole deburring tool both inside and out. That was 10 or so years and 4 or 5 reloadings ago.

I was reluctant to drill out the flash holes as in the 6ppc the small flash hole was credited with aiding in superior accuracy.

Reality is I notice little to no difference in performance from small flash hole vs large flash hole.

Mighty Armory decapping dies can use the small or large pins.
I'm not sure but I think the small flash hole in the Lapua brass will help prolong brass life by helping keep the primer pockets from enlarging. That seems to be the weakest spot in this brass.
