CFE223 and lighter weight bullets
#1
Has anyone tried CFE223 and 55gr bullets? It seems both hornady and hodgdon cut off before that. Fortunately, or unfortunately for me I have quite a bit of CFE223 so I'd like to use it if its reasonable.

Hodgdon has 6PPC data on 55 grain bullets with cfe 223. 31.0 start, 33.0 max.
Next range day I intend to try the Barnes 68 grain FB match in my PPC with cfe 223. If it's any good I'll try it in the ARC.

I used 32.5 gr of CFE in a 243 LBC case (basically 6mm Grendel which has that whopping 0.03" of capacity over an ARC) to fireform necked down virgin Grendel brass with 55 gr Nosler Shots.  Velocity was below 3200 out of my 18" middie in a Phoenix winter and it abused my case heads.  If you just want trigger time or am looking to use up your CFE, I'd start at the PPC minimum, but it gave me pressure and/or timing issues.

Disclaimer (since you are a newbie (welcome aboard!)): I am what you could call a "CFE Hater".

Edit add: also note that Hodgdon's PPC data is for BOLT guns.

Ahh, had not thought of looking at 6mm PPC, 243LBC or similar cartridges. Thank you!
