6ARC TAP Ammo Reviews?
#1
Have any of you good folks seen any independent testing/review of the police round? It is a 106gr barrier blind load….. https://www.hornadyle.com/6mmARC#!/ I thought maybe it would be a version of their GMX but the pictures show a lead core and jacket.

Hornady used an 18” barrel for their testing and I have both an 18” and a 12” gun. I’m wondering how it does out of a 12” barrel and how it is for precision.

Cheers,

Interesting. Have not even seen it for sale on the shelf/web anywhere.
What is "match brass composite" material for the case? Composite??

This is the first I've heard of 6mm ARC TAP ammo. Looks purpose built for LE/Military use for defeating barrier material & still have reasonably decent expansion but its retained weight doesn't look that great. Its velocity is a bit lower than Hornady's other 6 ARC products but they were shot through an 18" barrel instead of a 24" tube.

What I'd like to see is other ammo makers like Nosler, Federal or Remington put out a 6mm ARC product. Even PPU or Lapua...

Says it uses temp stable powder, so that velocity of 2625 is pretty good for a 106 out of an 18". I wonder what's in there! It also makes me wonder what their definition of "temp stable" is. 2520 could be considered temp stable when compared to CFE223 or Lever......

Yeah, I haven’t seen it in the wild yet either.

I figure composite brass case must be different alloys in the base v the body of the case??? Maybe???

I agree about the retained weight. I always look for a bullet that holds together well, rather than coming apart. I’ll have to see if they’ve done any gel tests with their ELD-X load to compare.

I had hoped for maybe a GMX bullet. And I’d love to see a Barnes offering also. But then, I’d also love to see 39 cents/gallon gas again, too!

I checked my chrono results. I get 2615 and 2621 with Black and ELD-M out of my 18” Odin so this looks right in line for velocity. (My 12” does 2395 with both of these.)
