What happens if an AR15 and a 6mm benchrest rifle make babies?
The 6mm ARC.
Back years ago the naval surface warfare group created a rifle that extended the range and accuracy of the standard service rifle by creating the MK12 SPR (special purpose reciever, later called the special purpose rifle).
This slick piece of gear paired with its MK262 ammunition , with a 77gr sierra matchking OTM was capable of extending range out to as far as 800 yards in some enviromental conditions. It also had a harder punch on anything it hit than the standard service rifle.
The 6mm ARC opens the possibility to take that concept a step further by extending the range to or beyond 1000 yards, in a rifle thats approximately the same size/weight as the SPR.
It hits harder, its range is greater, and it can be more accurate in varying enviromental conditions such as wind and sea level air density.
Considering that it also packs enough energy for hunting, and uses a cartridge thats very similar to 6mm benchrest cartridges, i think this currently represents the leading edge in MSR type rifles that can be made with off the shelf parts, firing factory available (if the shortages would ease up) ammunition.
