Barnes 112gr. Matchburners in 6 ARC
#1
Been looking for some load development info for the Barnes 112Gr. Matchburner. G1 BC .624
Ar15 platform 20" Ballistic Advantage 1-7 barrel. Loaded to mag length max.
Most of what I have loaded is in the 90-108gr range and using LVR, TAC, and Varget.
Shooter's reference has some loads for 110gr. AMax, just thought I would be a troll and see if anyone has experimented with them.
Thanks to all who respond in advance!

I would first observe how much of the powder column is taken up by the 112 MB (quite a bit.).
But here is some data that should be relevant all though it's 6PPC 1-7 barrel.
Oh, unless it's the only primers you have, skip using cci 400's.

6PPC RAP 24 inch barrel.

Barnes 112 MB, Lever 27.0, Horn/Gren 6x, cci 400

2.290 2627,2668,2649 3=1.980 SD 20.5 AVE 2648
2.280 2659,2665,2669 3=.480 SD 5.03 AVE 2664
2.275 2674,2686,2668 3=1.360 SD 9.16 AVE 2676
2.270 2673,2680,2685 3=2.145 SD 6.02 AVE 2679

Thanks for the info Lemonaid. I have 450's, 71/2, and #41. I use mostly #41 based on consistency of ES / SD
Some of my loads on my ladder tests only have a 2 FPS ES. I couldn't believe it when I first saw it . 29.2 and 29.4 Lever got me there. 95gr. Sie HPBT Match @2.260 shoots bug holes!

Matchburners seem to come and go in popularity on the Ol' interweb.

One day everybody is saying and showing groups as to how great they are for the money, next day the yellow box crowd shames people for being "poors" and how they explode in flight.

Around here it's Horny or nothing, so to streamline the process I've done very well with 105gr Match hpbt bullets to prove out my rifle and load development.

I'd like to get a box of Barnes and Bergers to try some time when I feel like spending the premium for a single box and shipping.

I use a Harrell powder measure and all loads are hand trickled onto a National Metallic Digital scale.

I've used the Yellow and the orange box of 108's, but I bought a couple of boxes af the Barnes to test. I only shoot recreationally on steel and paper now. I was the Battalion marksman when I was in the Navy (1971) but never felt I had to prove myself to anyone. I will be 72 on the 14th and have had many injuries in my life so I am not as steady, durable, and I have severe COPD leaving me to drag a O2 tank everywhere I go, so I only hunt Predators. I'm a stubborn old man and I will go down fighting..

Welcome aboard gman! I was Navy also back in the 70's - but the "rifles" we carried were 6 ft in diameter! (icbm's) lol. Not too bad of accuracy for 2500 miles!! minute of battlefield...

If you look at the 108-110 Hornady data - which data like that is typically based on the higher weight of the 2 - you will have something to go on. Lever probably your best bet. Expect about 20 ft/sec less than the 110 might show for a particular load (adjusting for 18" barrel in gas, or 24" in bolt). There's data for both AR style and bolt.
Run a ladder from low to high and see what you get.

Thanks for the info!
Haven't had time to do any work on the Matchburners as I am doing load development in another 6 ARC using Speer 100grSPBT.
If everything works out, this will become my go to load for the AR platform. Found a deal on them I couldn't pass up so bought a 1000.

My rifle shoots them into nice little groups even though during the feed they get a bit scarred up and the nose a little rubbed. The 85 Speer BTSP is also a good shooter.
