Accurate 2520 experiences

(02-06-2025, 06:28 AM)Trashy Wrote: After the majority of my load development several years ago trying several different powders I settled on Lever, it gave top velocities (in warm weather) and 3/4” groups.  However, even in Texas the drop in velocity was noticeable at the mid to late part of hunting season and it shoots just as nasty as CFE.  I have since switched to A2520 because of a “necessary accident”, I use 2520 in both my G’s pushing the 123 SST and the 95 vmax with good results.  I had a brain fart and ran out of Lever when it was hard to find so I done load work up with 2520 as quick as I could with the 95 SST since I had the 2520 on hand.  Getting Bingo with it never crossed my mind but I was more than pleasantly surprised, velocity difference if any was nominal, groups less than one inch at a 100 yards, shoots cleaner and more consistent than Lever.  That CMMG barrel seemed to love it, it also worked well in a Monster barrel, I just built an ARC with a Krieger barrel from Precision Firearms and it is putting up faster velocities than Lever.  Since I haven’t actually shot Lever in this PF Krieger barrel the barrel itself may account for some of the faster velocity (they are both 20” with rifle length gas system and the load data for both barrels with the exception of a few thousands difference in seating depth is the same).  I guess I should load some Lever in the PF Krieger to determine that is a factual statement, damn I thought I was done buying Lever.  I’m done rambling for now hope this helps some.
