Howa mini upgrade

The plastic magwell on the Howa mini seems to be its weakest point, and has a history of breaking.  There are a number of options including MDT's bottom metal that uses Howa's magazine.

Jefferson Outdoors offers hinged floorplate, blind magazine, and bottom metal that uses Howa's magazine.

Diversified Innovative Products also offers bottom metal that accepts Howa's magazine

Oregunsmithing also offers a hinged floorplate solution

The latter is/was in stock, so I ordered one. It will make the rifle more slender at the balance/carry point, and still allows quick unloading.

I have the Jefferson Outdoors hinged floorplate bottom metal on my 6.5 Grendel Mini Howa. It's a good unit. I Originally had the DIP bottom metal but didn't like the clunky feeling with the magazine sticking out the rifle's bottom. With the JO bottom & Oregunsmithing's light weight stock, it's really slick.

I put mine in an MDT chassis, but also swapped out the barrel and put a timney trigger in. I like this setup a lot. I just could not get a trustworthy cheek weld with the howa stock.
It is a bit heavier than y'alls I imagine, but it's in the running for the hunting trips this year.

O WAIT!!!!
you guys are talking ARC and I'm talking grendel, sorry 'bout that, lol!

I bought the 20" barreled action from Brownells, put it in a Stocky's VGM, and added the Jefferson Outdoors blind floorplate. The VGM stock isn't as comfortable off the bench for me, and it has my trigger finger go to a different place than I like, but for any other position it's a great stock. That JO bottom metal lends confidence when torquing up the action screws too.
I can hold the rifle by wrapping my hand around the action just forward of the trigger guard and it balances well there, and carries easily since it's so light.
It will either be the Howa or my .308 that I hunt with this year, still haven't made that decision yet.
