80 grain ELD-VT bullets experience on paper & game

Anyone care to share any experiences with the 80 grain ELD-VT bullets.

Nothing?,no one here given this one a try yet? Looked at Hodgdon load data for this & it looks like We are unlikely to get any more velocity in a bolt action than the lower pressure gas gun data. All 80 GR ELD VT loads, except Ramshot Tac ,are already compressed loads. I am doubting if we will have adiquate room to get another Grain of powder under the ELD VT for more pressure & velocity.

Looking to me the Gas gun data leaves no room for more velocity as case capacity is already maxed out.

I've got the bullets but haven't used them yet. They're way down my list for reloading. I'm still working on 6.5 Grendel loads for both gas & bolt guns. When I do get around to 6mm ARC, they'll be strictly for my Uintah bolt gun.

I did some work with them using Power Pro Varmint, really like that powder, not as precise as I would have liked. The Hornady app doesn't have a lot of other powders listed and that i have available.

The Hodgden site has a few more options, but is only listed at the 52k for gas guns, though I might give some H4895 a try there as well, Gordon's Reloading Tool guestimates that around 31 grains will be compressed max load. It is something I would consider, though I'd start the workup around 29.0 or 29.5.

Does the Hornady app offer bolt gun data? Suppose I am curious how much CFE 223 & or LVR they are suggesting as a max load for the 80 gr ELD VT? Sorry, I have never done an app. Suppose I may ask what powder interest you most for this projectile that you may not currently have?

I got the Hornady app because I use a bunch of different calibers with their bullets, may or may not be "the best" bullets for some people, but they work well for me.

They have only 7 powders listed for 6ARC bolt gun, and this is their max load
TAC 31.5
Benchmark 28.7
Power Pro Varmint 31.0
Accurate 2230 29.9
X-Terminator 30.5
H322 27.4
H335 29.7

Gas gun has the following listed,
TAC 29.7
Leverevolution 31.8
Norma 202 27.8
IMR 8208 XBR 27.7
Power Pro Varmint 29.5
Accurate 2520 31.0
Power Pro 2000 MR 31.5
CFE223 30.9
Accurate 2460 29.2
H4895 27.7
H335 27.7

Of this list, I have H4895, Leverevolution, CFE223, Power Pro Varmint, in my inventory right now, so of this list, those are the ones I'm trying. Haven't seen any other load data from Alliant and would like to know if any of the RL series would work. Also surprised to not see any Varget on the Hornady list.

The Hodgdon site has 12 powders in their list, but it is all gas gun at 52kpsi.

Super: Of the Hornady bolt gun data which two propellants are offering top velocity? Anything to speak of over the Gas gun data?
Thank's for sharing?

In bolt gun, CZ527, 24" 1:7.5 twist, Fed 205
TAC with 31.5gr is listed at 3100
Power Pro Varmint 31.0 gr, Accurate 2230 29.9gr, and X-Terminator 30.5gr are all listed at 3050

Gas Gun, Noveske N4, 18" 1:7.5 twist, Fed 205
TAC 29.7gr, Leverevolution 31.8gr, Accurate 2520 31.0gr, CFE223 30.9gr are all listed at 2800
IMR8208 XBR 27.7gr, Power Pro Varmint 29.5gr, Accurate 2460 29.2, H4895 27.7gr are listed at 2750

Given the speed differences, it would appear about 1.5 grains more for the bolt gun than the gas gun, even though it is 6" longer.

Out of my 26" bolt gun with these, using Power Pro Varmint at 30.4 grains, 36 Shots, I was averaging 3179fps with SD 28, ES 108, Min 3107 and Max 3215.  Trying to attach my Garmin .csv file that I have of it, hope it comes through.
.txt   6ARC_ELDVT__2024-06-29_10-20-39.txt (Size: 1.8 KB / Downloads: 1)

Wouldn't let me save it as a .csv, so saved as a .txt in notepad. Easiest to download it, convert it to .csv to view it as a proper spreadsheet.

DFOSLAND: thank you for the reply

Noticing we are comparing a 24" Bolt action barrel vs a 18" gas gun barrel with this data from the Hornady app.

Looks to me as expected. little advantage in terms of velocity w the bolt gun with this long projectile.

My rifle barrel tends to run fast. My expectation is that I will do well with Hodgdon Gas gun data & Ill be able to run up to, max grain charge weights with the gas gun data as opposed to 1 grain below max used w Hornady bolt gun data. Suppose I'll just need to put in the time & give these a try with the garmin & on paper.

Temps made it up to +6 deg F here today with 20 MPH winds on average. Suppose I am waiting for nicer weather & living vicariously from others in the mean time.

Thanks again for sharing!
