last try of 8208xbr under 95 gr. SST's
Posted by: Trashy - 08-19-2020, 08:42 PM - Forum: 6mmARC Ammunition and Reloading - Replies (4)

Below are todays results of the next ladder of 8208xbr under the 95 grain Hornady SST.  I switched to CCI 450 primers for this work up due to the 400's having slight primer cratering, which was odd cause the 450's had more pronounced cratering and a couple of punctured primers on the upper end of the ladder.  I'll get a pic of the empties posted.

This ladder was 5 rounds at each charge weight of 8208xbr beginning with 25.4 grains and ending with 28.1 grains moving up in .3 increments.  Hornady 95 grain SST, CCI 450 primers, CBTO 1.678 and no crimp.  I almost didn't fire the 28.1 grain charge weights due to what i thought was excessive primer cratering at 27.8 grains but curiosity got the better of me so I did.

25.4 gr, avg vel 2602, sd 15.2, es 40, group 1.04"
25.7 gr, avg vel 2627, sd 9.3, es 20, group 1.33"
26.0 gr, avg vel 2661, sd 5.4, es 13, group 1.50"
26.3 gr, avg vel 2696, sd 10, es 23, group 1.25"
26.6 gr, avg vel 2711, sd 16, es 42, group 2.15"
26.9 gr, avg vel 2726, sd 5.3, es 13, group 1.10"
27.2 gr, avg vel 2775, sd 8.4, es 23, group 1.60"
27.5 gr, avg vel 2799, sd 2.9, es 7, group 2.31"
27.8 gr, avg vel 2834, sd 5.2, es 13, group 1.80"
28.1 gr, avg vel 2847, sd 11.2, es 26, group 1.28"

I know the groups could have been better if I would have taken more time on each string but the range was busy today and there were a lot of cease fires\cold line calls.

I think I'm done with this powder\bullet combination, 8208xbr is looking like it is at its limit.  Going to make up a ladder of Accurate 2520 and Hornady Leverevolution next and see where that takes me.

The brass is in the box left to right from lowest charge weight to highest charge weight.

I would call before ordering just to be sure it is in fact new unprimed brass , if anybody orders and receives please post back here that it is confirmed 6 ARC brass.

Too expensive for me after shipping and credit card fees.

  90 grain bonded bullet - 18" barrel - 1-7.5x twist - TAC powder
Posted by: Pig_Popper - 08-17-2020, 02:59 AM - Forum: 6mmARC Ammunition and Reloading - Replies (8)

The objective was to get 2850 fps - DIDN'T ACHIEVE THE OBJECTIVE.

***Note there is NO load data available for this combo of bullet, powder, and primer - I essentially worked off of 6mm PPC data and extrapolated the hell out of things to derive starting loads.

I am familiar with 90 grain loads and velocities in 6.8 SPC and 6.5 Grendel - so using those as a ceiling I aimed for a slightly less velocity out of the smaller 6mm ARC case.

At this point I intend to refine the load and await published data to see if I am close to safe loadings.

Velocity Readings:

26.0 grains - 2546 / 2540 / 2575 FPS
26.5 grains - 2574 / 2573 / 2555 FPS
270. grains - 2650 / 2633 / 2604 FPS
27.5 grains - 2669 / 2684 / 2665 FPS
28.0 grains - 2734 / 2730 / 2709 FPS
28.5 grains - 2793 / error / 2795 FPS
29.0 grains - 2801 / 2814 / 2796 FPS

This video popped up on youtube today.  I had never seen it before.  C Products Defense announcing their 20 round 6.5 Grendel Duramag.  I didn’t notice anything about functioning in 6 MM ARC.

  Hornady n DoD
Posted by: AM4966 - 08-15-2020, 01:21 PM - Forum: 6mmARC Military & LE - Replies (1)

On 8/3/20 Hornady announced they filled an additional DoD contract for 6mm ARC I believe it's for the TAP ammo

7/23/20
Hornady won a contract for an unspecified amount of 300blk TAP sub-sonic ammo for a DoD entity.

Hornady have been busy selling a couple Boxs of ammo to the DoD ? I sure would like to find out who's using ARC.

How come this forum doesn’t come up in google searches ?

I see snipershide and other sites recent postings but entering searches isn’t showing this forum.  Is this in the works?

Need “hits” to draw in new members...

Title of thread should say

Exclamation 18" Proof Research - 6mm ARC build and testing - factory and handloaded ammo
Posted by: Pig_Popper - 08-11-2020, 02:18 AM - Forum: 6mmARC AR15s and Semi-Autos - Replies (39)

6mm ARC revealed by Hornady on June 3rd 2020.

Having a 1000 6mm 90 grain Speer DeepCurls on hand I would have bought in on the day of announcement and went after hogs ....  However Hornady provided me with many challenges such as not providing load data, not having components or ammo readily available, and releasing in the midst of an unprecedented peak in gun sales and component sales.

August 10th 2020 - I have a rifle built, I have 100 rounds of factory ammo at the correct overall length of 2.250", and I have dies and components from my own stock/inventory to reload with.

The last two months have been an excruciating wait and I am super excited to get started with this project.

Tomorrow I will setup a chrony and log velocity data and shoot 5 shot groups from this beefy barrel.  I did not have an adjustable gas block on hand so I am hoping Proof's CAMGAS system is optimized for the round as it is advertised to be.  I'm doing my part by using an OSS Helix Suppressor which is a flow-through design and has little to no blowback pressure.....
