Sorry D that cfe223 didn’t work for ya. I’m going to the range on Wednesday with the LVR under the 95’s, I’ll report on how it works if you haven’t taken it to the range yourself by then.

This whole situation gives me a new appreciation for why Bill A. was so slow, methodical and cautious will the release of the Grendel. Everything was squared away and a known quantity before he submitted it for SAAMI spec and others in the industry still managed to muck it up.

I wouldn't say it didn't work. Accuracy was spot on, but the velocity was down and the gun wouldn't lock back an last round.

But I was using published data that is grossly under rated.

And the stuff is down right filthy.

Dino - how far off was the velocity from Hornady’s latest load data release?

I’m having the same issue with reloading for 90 grain bullets.

Using TAC : I ran a load progression as follows:

26.0 grs - 2565 FPS / 26.5 grs - 2570 FPS / 27.0 grs - 2633 FPS / 27.5 grs - 2670 FPS / 28.0 grs - 2730 FPS / 28.5 grs - 2793 FPS / 29.0 grs - 2800 FPS.

The published Hornady data states: for 87 grain bullets w TAC

26.4 grs - 2500 FPS / 27.4 grs - 2600 FPS / 28.4 grs - 2700 FPS MAX load

So, I’m not sure if going forward WITH POWDERS NOT LISTED I should load based on velocity - because the Hornady data is 100 FPS off from what the barrel is giving me.

As an example, I’ve since tried W748 and WC 846 S powders with the 90 grain bullets.

W748 :

27.0 grs - 2540 / 27.5 grs - 2584 FPS / 28.0 grs - 2620 FPS / 28.5 grs - 2670 FPS / 29.0 grs - 2708 FPS / 29.5 grs - 2750 FPS

WC 846 S (Bulk powder) :

27.5 grs - 2475 FPS / 28.0 - 2525 FPS / 28.5 grs - 2600 FPS / 29.0 grs - 2660 FPS / 29.3 grs - 2716 FPS / 29.6 grs - 2730 FPS / 30.0 grs - 2762 FPS

AS AN ASIDE:

6mm PPC data for w748 shows :

26.5 grs - 2500 FPS staring and 28.5 grs - 2700 FPS MAX load

6mm PPC data for TAC shows :

24.9 grs - 2530 FPS staring and 28.0 grs - 2800 FPS MAX load

So, the 6mm PPC with LESS case capacity seems to be lining up nearly exactly with the Hornady published load data for this class of bullet weight and powder selection .....

They should have just called the caliber (6-ARC) the 6mm PPC AI

I believe we were all thinking that adding a grain of powder to 6mm PPC loads would be a safe bet given the case dimensions and PSI ratings of both calibers - apparently not ......

My Ipad I had hooked to the chrony is in my truck and my son borrowed it yesterday, he supposed to bring it back tonight.

But going from memory my numbers almost mimic yours, about 100 off of published dadta and about 200 to 250 off of factory rounds. I was loading 105 and 108 grain bullets. My thought was to throw out all previouse data and start over. I am going to work these two loads up to match the velocity of the factory round and stop there.

I think if you start just shy of the max Hornady data and work up you would have a good starting point. I am loading all my 6 ARC rounds with CCI 450 magnum primers, as others have had issues with flattening and cratering going above listed loads.

The way I see it Hornady is getting 2700 + out of their factory loads, but they only supply data to get you in the 2500 fps range, thats a pretty good spread.

Yes that spread is concerning - why they only publish the 2500 FPS publicly yet send out rounds that far exceed those velocities.

It would give shooters more confidence that their load data is correct if Hornady added the p.s.i. pressure readings with the load data. They must have it to list safe gas and bolt loads, right? so why not publish it? Or are they using another method?

Made a range trip today, shot about a box worth, mostly the 105's but I also have some 108 factory now so I shot some of those too. This was mostly for zeroing in the replacement scope (4-14x44 PA ffp) and then to collect some 1x brass for reloading. I now have 40 pcs of 1x and a few 2x, so I will build some chrono groups around the 103 eldx again, looking for a node somewhere about 2700 ft/s.
Again, using my CFE and 2520 powders on hand.

Unless Hornady makes known its magic sauce/powder and as long as we don't have any psi data to refer to, the 105-108 class is going to be basically Swag-theories, since their data is so low.

Hunting-wise I think the 95-103 range (maybe the 90 sierra tipped TGK also) is going to be the sweet spot for this 20" barrel. Varmints, the 87 vmax and 90 gr whatevers. My feelings right now.
For targets, maybe the 105-107, perhaps the sierra 107 SMK... I just don't know on that part yet. 1 of the 6x's shot a lot of 95 Smk's or so I'm told.

I got some as well, next trip out will be CFE223 and Leverevolution loaded a little on the hot side. I want to get a little more velocity out of this. I had pretty good luck with the CFE, but did have to give the scope a few clicks to compensate for bullet drop, but the groups were still tight at a little over 1/2 MOA @ 100.

I have my ladders ready to go for Lever and A2520 but it looks now like that hurricane is going to bring rain tomorrow and cancel my range day. They are now also calling for rain on Thursday and Friday but hey this is Texas so we won’t know what the weather is really going to do until tomorrow, like waiting on Christmas morning!

My Lever ladder goes from 28.6 to 30.7 in .3 grain increments and the 2520 ladder goes from 28.1 to 30.2 grains in .3 grain increments. I am looking forward to seeing what happens first, reaching my velocity mark or pressure signs
