  Reloads not cycling
Posted by: GregP42 - 03-20-2021, 01:01 AM - Forum: 6mmARC Ammunition and Reloading - Replies (7)

Hey guys,

Check my head for me here, I loaded some 75gr VMax with 29.5gr of Power Pro Varmint, and it would only extract them part way, or when they did eject it wouldn't pick up the next round. Brass is converted IMI 7.62x39, crono reading was 3080fps for that load. Factory Hornady Black 105 HPBT cycled fine and cronoed 2658fps. This is out of the 20" Monster barrel, A2 recoil buffer and spring, M16 BCG, accuracy was good with both loads, I took the 105gr all the way out to 600 yds on steel no problem, took the 75gr out to 300 yds before I got fed up with it jamming and not cycling.

So, ideas? Up the powder charge? Punt?

Greg

  Reloading dies
Posted by: Shoreglide - 03-19-2021, 08:20 PM - Forum: 6mmARC Ammunition and Reloading - No Replies

I'm on the road today, and just stopped by Sportman's Warehouse in Roanoke. They have 2 each of Hornady and RCBS die sets in stock for 6mm ARC. Not often lately we actually get a choice of in-stock anything gun related.

Natchez has it in stock for $31.99/box this morning. Wish it were cheaper, but I just ordered some to try it out.

I just checked my emails & discovered a notification from UPS that a shipping label has been created by Precision Firearms. Woohoo! My new 6mm ARC AR barrel is due to be delivered next Tuesday. Big Grin

  Dies anyone?
Posted by: SvenGar58 - 03-16-2021, 03:24 AM - Forum: 6mmARC Ammunition and Reloading - Replies (5)

Ive been going by the local SW every day or two in hopes of acquiring some powder for my 6 ARC.  Unfortunately none.  However, I was able to acquire dies a while back which was something of a surprise.  And now, there is even something of a surplus of HDY 108 gr ELD Match on the shelf (about 10 boxes).  I actually have enough for loading once fired brass!  I think we're experiencing a weird phenomenon as a result of there being only a few 6 ARC owners/shooters in a remote place.  There may only be two or three in town.

In any event, I wanted to make an offer to the fraternity of 6mm ARC enthusiasts here.  There is a set of HDY dies on the shelf at the local SW that has been there for about a week.  I'd be willing to acquire them and forward them to another ARC shooter for cost + shipping.  Things are so short now that I hate to see them sitting there waiting to find a home.  First come, first served.  Send me a PM and we can arrange the practicalities -- hopefully before they disappear.

Relative virtue of the 6MM ARC
Posted by: SvenGar58 - 03-15-2021, 04:01 AM - Forum: 6mmARC AR15s and Semi-Autos - No Replies

I'm new to the 6 ARC -- as we all are given its recent introduction -- but also new to the AR-15.  I would be interested to hear the views of folks who are experienced with the Grendel, Valkyrie, and other similar cartridges regarding the relative virtues of the ARC compared to the others.  I'm impressed so far, but I would like to know if those of you who've been shooting the other 6MM, 6.5MM, .224, etc., are likewise impressed or maybe not.  So far, I've been reading about experiences with the ARC, but not so much with reference to the others.

  Introducing Rubin
Posted by: StoneHendge - 03-15-2021, 12:41 AM - Forum: 6mmARC AR15s and Semi-Autos - Replies (35)

In commemoration of my 100th post, the time has come to introduce Rubin. A project 3.5 years in the making which has been undergoing a super top secret completion the past couple of weeks has come to fruition. Because no one thought I could leave a Lilja 6 ARC barrel waiting in the back corner of the closet, did they?

Rubin is the runt of the Hendge household, weighing in at 5.15 lbs unscoped and 6.67 lbs with my trusty old Vortex HSLR 2.5-10x30 FFP (XLR Reticle) sitting up top. All that's missing is gas block, gas tube and crush washer, so his weight will go up a smidgen. But he's ready to test fire after I made 5 ARC cases yesterday so I can get a headspace reading and properly size when I go into mass brass production.

Gigi isn't jealous at all. If fact, they make a cute couple for a skinny guy and a heavy set girl.

There may be some jealousy on match days in the future, but we will cross that bridge when it's time.

Build details to  come......

  6mm ARC Bolt Gun Complete
Posted by: Old Bob - 03-14-2021, 12:13 PM - Forum: 6mmARC Bolt Actions - Replies (17)

I finally got my Uintah 6mmARC bolt gun built. Parts List:

Anderson lower receiver put together with Anderson lower parts except the trigger.

The Uintah furnished 3.5lb single stage trigger.

A fixed Magpul Carbine stock* with a Sylvan Arms side folder adapter (wanted a Law Tactical adapter but couldn't find one anywhere).

Leupold 4.5-14x50 Mark 4 scope with a Leupold scope mount (might change the scope mount to a Wilson Combat V3 Ultralight AR Scope Mount). Burris Tactical 30mm rings.

Wilson Combat Q-Comp muzzle brake.

* I tried a G.I. A1 stock first but it was way too long with the adapter.

Getting anxious to do some trigger time on this rifle. Won't be able to get out to the range until Wednesday...
