shot this was the first 3 rounds out of the barrel when i was trying to come up with some loads for 70g nosler balistic tip varmint bullets , needless to say im not changing a thing
it is currenntly on the lower off my custom 28 inch barreled grendel build but im building an identical lower just for the arc
With loads of rain and time on my hands I took the opportunity to load up some 90gr Lapua Scenar yesterday, got to the range early and let em rip. New brass Hornady brass filled up with LVR, I used Hornadys bolt gun COL for the 90gr GMXs.
Wasnt shooting my best ( hungover) but the Lapua's showed a bit of potential, 50m indoor range.
Must be a few guys out there reloading this 6mm Arc cartridge now. What bullets are you getting most favorable results with thus far? Why did you opt for the bullet, suppose task intent like target, coyote round or deer round for example. Do you intend trying other bullets for a specific task?
Im new to reloading and have a lot to still learn. If everything but COL remains the same and COL decreases by 0.010” , my understanding is that the peak pressure will increase. Will velocity remain the same (since only peak pressure increased) or will muzzle velocity increase a little bit?
Short barrels and efficient 6mm bullets are a match made in heaven — or forged by warriors in the fires of Hades, if you will.
Our 6mmARC 12" MONSTER barrels in 416R bead-blasted stainless steel have arrived!
They feature a 1:7 twist with 5R rifling and each weighs 1 lb 8.6 oz. This allows these barrels to handle even the heaviest 6mm bullets out to the longest range you care to shoot.
Muzzle is threaded for 5/8-24 devices. Gas block journal is 0.750 and Carbine Length Gas System (CLGS) gas port is located such that gas blocks can be butted right up to the gas block shoulder. On the breech end, barrel extension is nitrided for all-weather durability and lubricity of the extension-bolt interface.
Barrel external profile could be called a medium weight — perfect for field use. Profile starts out heavy — like a bull barrel — near the chamber where extra metal is most important, and tapers to a light profile near the muzzle where weight is unnecessary. This moves the center of balance of your rifle closer to the mid-point, and makes the weapon feel lighter and handle better.
Finally, our MONSTER skull logo is laser-etched near the muzzle for an extra touch of cool. ;-)
Price for our 6mmARC MONSTER 12 is $139 plus shipping.
Completed the break-in on my new ARC yesterday. It’s an Aero upper with BA 20” barrel on an Anderson lower with Aero mil-spec insides. Last 10 rd group in the picture. All things considered – like the mil-spec trigger, wholly inadequate rest, new barrel, etc – I’m pretty pleased. MV with the HDY 108 ELD M was about 2600. I think with an adequate rest and better trigger, and a bit of thoughtful load development, it’s going to turn into a dandy rifle. Best part was that I bore sighted the Viper in my shop at 7 yds and never touched it; my calculator says that with zero at 200 yds, I should be .8” high at 50 yds. Just imagine!
Will be working on loads as I accumulate once fired brass from HDY. Aside from new unfired brass and powder, I’ve been able to stock up on bullets and primers, and there has been an irregular but adequate supply of the HDY Match ammo on the shelf at the local SW. WRT bullets, one way or another I’ve obtained HDY 108’s, Nosler RDFs, SMKs, and Barnes Match Burners to work with . . . when I can find some powder.
Righto curiosity got the better of me last night and I slapped 5 cartridges together to do a quick test on the way home from work.
Obviously 6 PPC data was a safe starting point, I did have some Re10x on hand which would rocket along but the safe option was 8208. I've been loading a compressed loads of 8208 in my Grendel for years so I had little hesitation with 32gr and giving it a light crush.
5 shot group went 0.7 MOA which I wasnt expecting. This is a start load but Id be surprised if I could fit another 2 grains of 8208 in the case, I reckon with the right powder 3700fps would be achievable.......
