Hello, new to the group but this looks like the place to be. I recently built a 6ARC, Aero Precision Enhanced Upper, 20" Proof Stainless barrel, Rise Armament trigger, Tubb buffer spring, bunch of Phase 5 stuff etc.
Anyway, I spent most of the day trying to get the 80gr ELD-VT to shoot and was not very successful. I was using leverevolution and it seemed very "peaky" to say the least. I will be trying again today, but I wanted to see if anyone on here has had any success with this bullet or not. I have a whole raft of different powder I can try. Just looking for some input to speed this process up a little bit.
Looking to sell off this 6mm ARC setup. $500 to your door, shipped. Willing to part out as well, provided its not deconstructing the upper. I'm selling it because I'm not getting much use out of it living in AK for whacking coyotes, hogs, etc., and I'm expecting a kid later this fall so I could use the cash to prepare. Pics are way better if you open them to a new tab.

3 shot group isn't statistically significant, but cool to see 0.099MOA is possible even with suppressor POI shift. 5 shots group sub-moa at 0.684MOA, if I'm doing my part. Been able to ping an IPSC 450yd steel 3 times under 2 seconds with it. It's pretty smooth, and a pig with the upper being a hair over 5lbs. I picked the BCM upper because BCM under-sizes their barrel extension in upper receiver by a thousandth of an inch or so, and requires it to be thermal fit by heating up the extension with a heat gun. Had the barrel sit in the freezer for a day beforehand as kooky as it sounds. Shot 3-400rds through it, been thoroughly cleaned with copper and carbon cleaner using bore guide & brush, BCG and internals scrubbed and sonic-cleaned. Pictures of the video/camera looking thing are of the chamber and the barrel.
Happy to answer questions or the reloading data I've compiled. It's cross-listed on TACSWAP, my username is Snow_Nigerian there too with all positive feedback.
So the other week, I had mentioned that I had loaded up all my brass with 107 SMK HPBT with 26.8gr of Varget, CCI 400s, out of a 26" 1:7, bolt action rig. I just needed a load that worked, since I didn't have enough time to do a proper load/ladder work up before going sage rat/ground squirrel hunting in Eastern Oregon. Used all my loads, no pressure issues, but precision wasn't there obviously.
In searching through other threads, Lever Revolution is very popular here, so that is first suggestions, but I don't have any. Also, when people were disassembling the Hornady Black, it was compressed and found to be 32gr of spherical powder, assumption being CFE223. In running the loads through GRT, my guess is that they are using Superperformance, and the 32gr powder is right at the top of the pressure curve.
So, what I'm thinking is to get some Hornady 105gr HPBT and work up a load with the SuperPerformance and see if I can match what the Black ammo did for me, 2760 FPS and less than an inch at 100.
Yes, I know this powder is a lot slower burning than Lever and CFE223, but I also have a lot longer barrel than most.
Completed a short ladder with the Hornady 105 using the AA2460 and found what looks like a nice node between 24.4 and 25.2 So now going to load up a .2gr increment ladder to further search this. Also going to ad another .005" jump as this first test was at touch.
I have retired from Tournament Bass Fishing and have started to sell all my extra stuff on eBay . This has given me some extra money , I thought I would use to fix up my 6arc.
So what can be done to a factory stock to enhance the stock. I had thought about a new one but wasn't able to find anything like what I was wanting.
Also if you could what would you have done to a rifle to make it more enjoyable .
Last what gun smiths do you guys use . Are they local or do you send it off?
Has anyone loaded these bullets? Wondering if you found any magic with one powder vs another. I plan to start with Varget and move out from there. Looking for a good 1,000 yd bullet.
This is from my new to me Switchback 6mmARC with a 22" Light Varmint barrel with factory brake.
Just completed shooting 4 powder OCW ladders using a 87gr Hornady VMAX bullet using; BL-C2, TAC, Benchmark and A2460 powders. These were shot at 200yds, bright sun, 50*, 5-7mph steady head wind. 75 rounds in total. All but the BL-C2 were loaded at .5gr increments while the BL was at .3gr increments.
Initial impression was that I was unimpressed with all of these. Only one close to looking as a possibility was a mid-range load with the A2460 which was a complete surprise as there is very little data with this powder. What I can say is that there was a definite POI shift with all 4. The BL-C2 and TAC WERE all high, the Benchmark was low and the A2460 showed the greatest shift from low to high within a full 2grain increase from start to max.. Haven't measured it but looks to be a full 2" shift.
So being new and unfamiliar with this gun and cartridge I don't know yet if the gun doesn't like the bullet, the weight, the powders or if this one just doesn't shoot.
The availability of any of the heavier 6mm LR projectiles is really limited right now. My receiver, fore end and dies have arrived and the barrel and BCG are due tomorrow, (if the weather lets up). Brass and pilots next week.
There are two bullets I'd really like to try: The Berger 109 grain LR hybrid, and the Sierra 110 grain Match King. I'd happily pay a couple bucks for the trouble if anyone could send me just a single undamaged one of either, or both, of these projectiles so I can play around with the COAL, mag length and distance to the lands. I have Starline brass coming as well and I'd like to neck turn as I prep it before it's first firing. Having an example of the bullets I'd like to use would be helpful there as well. At this point it looks like I will need to start into the season with the Scenars, just because they are available.
