  Savage Switchback.
Posted by: KMW1954 - 03-02-2024, 03:17 AM - Forum: 6mmARC Bolt Actions - Replies (8)

Mine just arrived today and looking forward to shooting it and seeing what it does.

My Burris scope won't fit the rail is too long and my Athlon Argos 8-34X56 is going to need the rings completely readjusted.. As they are now they do not match the rail.

As also expected this stock is junk. Though as soon as we are finished with our winter rifle league I can swap the Boyd's At-One on my Model 11.

  New build

The build parameters for this gun were very specific. To be the most accurate I could build for our biweekly 600 yd shoot. It is not light but it doesn’t need to be. This is expected to be sub moa, hopefully 1/2moa, from 600-1,000 yards.

Specs:

Mega upper and hand guard
Craddock cut 20” Bartlien 5R 1-7.25
CMC bcg with headspaced bolt from Craddock
LaRue lower
MBT trigger
PRS Lite stock
LaRue mount
Viper gen 1 5-25
Q Full Nelson

I can’t shoot it right now but soon…

Powder and Primers Shelf Life ?
Posted by: Bassfish1952 - 03-01-2024, 01:04 PM - Forum: 6mmARC Ammunition and Reloading - Replies (6)

I have Brass and bullets but have not gotten into powder and primers yet. How long will they keep ?  It doesn't do me any good to have brass and bullets if I can't make it go bang.
I have ammo that has been around for 15 years it still shoots but I'm not sure I would want to have to depend on it.

Thanks

  PSA, suppressor wait times
Posted by: SpeyRod - 02-29-2024, 03:16 AM - Forum: 6mmARC Deals, Information, New Products - Replies (2)

I was in the shop building my new 6 Arc today and over heard them talking about wait times. The had one individuals stamp returned in 5 days this month. They are seeing 2-4 weeks regularly. I’m tempted to try one as an individual just to test this.

I normally use a trust which I think takes longer. I just got 3 back last week after 1 year.

New Savage 110 Switchback should be home Friday night. I have a box of Hornady Black to run thru it for a baseline and to be able to get some measurements on the fired brass.

BUT! I had some old 80 gr Sierra SP left over from a 243 so I cleaned and sized up some Hornady brass and loaded up some with Benchmark and did 5 ea. of 25.5, 26.0, 26.5 and 27.0 just to see what it does and to help zero in the new rifle and scope. No ideas as to what I should expect.

  CZ 527 conversion to 6ARC
Posted by: OldTrailDog - 02-27-2024, 09:33 PM - Forum: 6mmARC Bolt Actions - Replies (9)

I built a gas gun 6ARC a couple of years ago and thoroughly enjoy shooting this cartridge.  This site is one that I regularly keep tabs on, and now I thought it was time to join up.

I have been wanting to build a bolt gun to complement the gas gun and reload a common cartridge for both. The CZ527 really piqued my interest, but since they are no longer being made I thought I'd go the Howa mini 1500 route. But I also started monitoring a guntrader group in my state just in case....  Well, behold, now I am the owner of a CZ527 in 6.5 Grendel.

I know there are several here who have made this conversion.  Pac-nor seems like one of the popular routes to take.  I've checked out their website and there are a number of options available to make decisions on.  Therefore I thought it would be prudent to ask about what options did you chose and would you recommend? My use will be largely target plinking with a round of deer hunting in the fall.  I favor a bit longer barrel, 20" or better. Anyone using another barrel maker? Finally, if you had to do it over again, what would you have done differently?

I'm retired and I toy decisions are considerably more restricted, but I have the time to patiently put this together (or at least I think I do).  So this will take a while for completion.  In the interim I will enjoy my gas gun.

Thanks

  Hello from Texas
Posted by: 6arcgene - 02-23-2024, 01:53 AM - Forum: Welcome New Members - Replies (4)

Howdy everyone.

I ran across this forum and just had to check it out. I have been building ARs for many years and was never fond of the 223. I discovered the Grendel and was happy with it for a few years, but recently I decided to resize all my Grendel brass and go all in into the 6 ARC. I have not been disappointed.

BUT I did have to do ONE thing to my 6 ARC that was unusual: The buffer spring seemed too stiff so I actually had to cut it down a bit in order to get the gun to work properly!!!  Its a 20" Faxon match barrel,  but perhaps the gas port on it is too small... I may have to drill it out a bit.

Have any of you encountered this issue???? Is it common to 6 ARCs?

Anyhow, nice to meet you all. I look forward to meeting shooters in the Weatherford, Texas area. I live in the country and have a nice private shooting range ( although its only 386 yards... wish it was 1000!!! ha ha !!)

Hope to chat again soon.

Gene

  Savage 110 Tactical
Posted by: rocknrod - 02-22-2024, 03:26 PM - Forum: 6mmARC Bolt Actions - Replies (8)

Still looking for a bolt gun in 6ARC. I would consider the Savage 110 tactical, except for the ridiculous 18" barrel. All the other calibers are available with 24" barrels.
Frustrating and I don't understand why.
