powder temp sensitivity question(s) |

From digging around on 6.5Grendel and a few others it appears Leverevolution is in the same ballpark as CFE223. Is 1.6 per degree a decent estimate? Also, does the velocity loss start and progress in a linear manner from a certain point, 70 degrees perhaps? And finally does this diminish at any particular temperature?
I've had good results with LVR so far but it's getting to that time in the Gulf South where 20-30 degree swings can make a big difference in ballistics. Wouldn't be a big deal for me normally but I'm going to a class in Nov and don't want to have to deal with any more variables than I have to. The only temp stable powder I have currently is H4895 and I think it may be a little fast for 105VLDs. Found lots of data on everything but LVR and I don't know if it's as big a deal as the napkin math says it could be. Thank you in advance.

6mm ARC Ammo at Natchez |

Natchez Shooters Supply has Hornady Match Rifle 6mm ARC 108 gr ELD-M ammo, 20/ct boxes for $29.49. That's the lowest I've seen any 6mm ARC ammo for quite awhile. I was confused by their limit. It says 20 piece limit per day. Is that one box of 20 rounds or 20 boxes? Well, they let me order 4 boxes so I guess the limit is 20 boxes.

Thinking cap time. This maybe a post for the reloading forums.
I am having issues with belting in my 6mm ARC handloads and I am pretty sure it is timing related, but not sure completely. The combo is a 108gr Berger Elite hunter on top of 26.5gr of Varget using a Federal GM205M primer. Starline Once fired 6.5 Grendel formed at 1.182" HS (B350). COAL is 2.280". Velocity is at 2445 fps.
Here is my current built:
Anderson RF-85 upper
Proof Research 18" barrel in 6mm ARC
Rifle +1 gas system w/ SA AGB
JP Enhanced 6.5 Grendel bolt
Brownell's (I think) phosphate carrier
A2 rifle buffer spring and tube
A2 rifle buffer: replaced the aluminum spacers with steel weights from a standard carbine buffer (estimated total weight around 7.5 oz.). I will verify the weight tonight.
ASC 6mm ARC 5-rd. magazine.
Custom 6mm silencer.
When utilizing this load with 6 clicks from closed of the AGB, I did not have any belting*, the action cycled, but the bolt did not lock back. 7 clicks the bolt locked back and there was a slight noticeable belt that I can barely feel with my fingernail, but could not see with a naked eye. 8 clicks the bolt locked back and I noticed the belting occurred maybe a few thousandths up the case. At this time I did not inspect the cases, for whatever reason.
Two days later I utilized that same load with 20 rounds with 7 clicks from closed on the the AGB. Half of them had belting on them.
Here are the big questions: Is my extra heavy buffer causing timing issues? Is the AGB opened up too much causing the case to begin extraction before pressures drop in order to compensate for the bolt not locking back?
*The way I measure belting is measured in feel and measurement. Belting seems to begin occurring at the webbing measuring 0.4405-0.441"

Documenting Uintah Precision Upper from First Shot |

Uintah Precision 6MM ARC upper with Rise Armament trigger. Hornady Black 105 gr ammo. I will be reloading and experimenting with RE15 (advised by the 6AR guy in the initial reloading post) and LEVERevolution with whatever bullets I can find. Currently I have Sierra 95 Tipped Match Kings and some 100gr Prohunters. Right now, I am planning on using the rifle for my upcoming deer hunt. The rifle has a 22" barrel and I also acquired a 10 round mag from Uintah. It is marked 6.8 on the follower and 6.8/224 on the side. Today I fired 27 shots and started with break in per UP specs: One shot and clean, one shot and clean. See what the barrel is telling you. If you need more do more. If not, you're done. Did that and never saw any copper "blue" indicators on the patches. For cleaning I used Hoppes #9 and a plastic .22 cal jag. Couldn't find my brass jag. This method of cleaning was recommended by several on youtube which as you know is always the best source of information. The concept of break in as I understand it is to use bullets to wear down any burrs that may be left from the manufacturing process. The burrs will scrape copper off the bullet and so when you clean and find tell tale copper blue, it means you need to keep shooting and wearing the burrs down. I saw no blue and decided it's good. Fired a few more shots to get the scope sighted in and did two five shot strings for group size. Normally I like to use a rest and good bench to put the gun in the best position to succeed but didn't have all my crap together today. First group off a rest, second off bipod. Either way, my platform was not the best and may have affected the groups. First group was about .75" and second was about 1.75" because of a single flyer. Throw that one out and it was .75" again. I followed up with a single shot at the bottom of a soda can laying on the ground at 200 yards. Raised the scope (Vortex Viper HST 6 -24) up 1 MOA and hit low 6 o'clock.
I plan on keeping this updated on my adventures. I also shoot a 6 Creedmoor FYI. If anyone knows where I can get some 90 gr TGK's I'd appreciate a heads up.
Oh, forgot to mention that I did have some feed issues. four or five times The round was picked up but didn't want to slip right into the chamber. Cycling the action is a bit odd feeling in general but mostly due to the cocking the hammer when pulling the bolt back instead of on the initial lifting of the bolt. As soon as I released pressure and went back at it, it slipped into the chamber just fine. Not sure if that was my fault or what so I will keep track of that. No other issues.

!00 grain Grand slam, for deer hunting? |

Been looking for bullets suitable for my bolt action 6mm Arc that are most suitable for deer hunting. The Speer 100 grain Grand Slam recently became available again. We will see for how long Any one have much experience with these?
Wanting a little more insight on how low of velocity they are still expanding well. Who here has worked with these over the years? I for one think this is a good old design. although may not be suitable for the 16" barreled guns & really question how the AR's may feed the Spire point bullet. Again my purpose is for a Bolt action & specifically a controlled round feed CZ 527.

Wrinkled necks when formed from 6Gren ?? |

I ran a few Hornady 6.5 grendel cases through the 6ARC dies and trimmed.Wrinkles or creases formed where the new neck was formed.I figured they'd smooth out when fired first time. On firing the creases improved some but most cases cracked or showed they were close to failing along the creases.Hoping someone can tell us where we made a mistake. Just received a new annealer and will now anneal all cases before re-sizing but... don't want to wreck anymore valuable brass.Been reloading literally 50 years now but have limited experience with reforming cases. Have a shoot tomorrow and don't want to use the few factory rounds I have. Thanks very much,Supervel

Was in the reload room today annealing some cases listening to the radio.
A commercial come on advertising legal marijuana cards that you can obtain online or by phone.
What has this country come to? It's not like a lot of people today are dopey enough that they need to smoke dope to exasperate it.
I will not say that I have never smoked it, just didn't care for it. Makes you lazy, tired, and disconnected feeling.
I guess it's part of the big plan... The Dumbing Down of America.
Well time to get back to the reloading, I think I might load out just about everything I can the next few weeks with the current situation of the current administration.

Since I cannot find any good quality 6mm ARC brass (forget Hornady too soft) I have been case forming 6.5 grendel, 220 russian, and 7.62x39 Lapua brass. Has anyone done any testing on which primer is best suited for the ELR 6ARC. Large or small?
