Hi, as the question suggests, I'm just looking for tips on what mags run the best for 6 arc in an ar15. Just wrapping up my build. I have a bunch of magpul 5.56 pmags I use for work, can I use them stock or maybe just a new follower? Or would I just be better off buying something else, and if so what do you recommend?
Hi all!
Currently Army infantry, moving around as service members do. I'm new to 6 arc and I'm super excited to learn as much as I can about this incredible little cartridge.
Just for fun, wanted to see how the 6mm ARC compared with the 6.5 Creedmoor.
Went to Hornady's website, and got the data on their hunting loads for the two cartridges, each using the same style hunting bullet — the ELD-X.
Both from 24" barrels, Hornady's data says the 6A fires its 103 ELD-X at 2800 fps and the 65CM its 143 ELD-X at 2700.
Then I went to the JBM online ballistics calculator and punched in Hornady's numbers.
At 500 yards, the 6A drops 52.9 inches and the 65CM 54.2. 6A shoots flatter at 500 yards by 1.3 inches.
At 500 yards, the 6A drifts, in a 10 mph wind, 18.6 inches and the 65CM 15.6. 65CM drifts less at 500 yards by 3 inches. Three inches difference is not bad at Five. Hundred. Yards.
Considering the 6.5 Creedmoor has taken the ballistics world by storm because of the capability it gives for its size, it's quite amazing to me that the 6mm ARC hangs with the Creedmoor, given its even smaller size.
I've attached the two ballistics charts generated by JBM if you're interested in comparing them.
On June 28, 1894, President Grover Cleveland signed the law making Labor Day a national holiday. We're celebrating the labor of America's working men and women that made the United States the "arsenal of Democracy" during some of the world's darkest days. Keep that fire burning and enjoy a well-deserved day off, and the Labor Day weekend.
To help celebrate, we've chopped prices on all our barrels.
Hello everyone. New to this format and starting to put together a gun over the next couple of months.
Not sure if it will be another top for the Grendel bottom or a bolt action. Looking to see what's out there, and what works in the budget. Selling my AR Creedmoor unless I can convince my bodyshop friend to let me shoot out of his shop back door at over 1k to the berm.
Retired for 2 years from the medical repair field after 40+ and finally settling down to this rifle aspect of reloading. I've enjoyed shotgun in the past, along with 38/357, 9 mm, 10 mm and 45 acp to feed my range baby's. Now for this 6.5 G baby I picked the parts up for over the last 3 years off Facebook "Waffles" and assembled two years ago. Thru some rounds down an indoor range to sight it in and check functionality and after cleaning, stored it for our move away from STL. I am a member of the Rolla Shooting Club with a 5 station 250 yd range, 5 station pistol and 5 station skeet/trap ranges as well. It's 2+ hour drive to anything longer so it will have to do. 6 mm ARC is something I want to try next after the Grendel build is fine tuned and I get the go ahead from my CFO of 40 years. She's getting her 38/357 Henry next weekend for our 40th to go with her 22 Henry.
Well, I have a All American Turret press, Hornady single press to reload from, RCBS 1500 Chargemaster powder thrower and Hornady basic thrower. RCBS, Hornady and Redding die sets that I've picked up over the years. Also a set of 380 acp for a friend and his wife in love with that caliber for practice ammo.
I love photography, the great and grandkids (22's ready) and my 2 older kids and spouses enjoy coming down to shoot as well. Traveling has been fun as well and hope to do more along with hitting some ranges as 2A friendly states permit.
Did a 4 year stint in the USAF repairing Electronic Warfare equipment on B-52G's at GAFB and enjoyed upstate NY. I've been active with the Buffalo Naval Park and their work on the USS Little Rock, USS Croaker and my love for the past 58 years USS THE SULLIVANS. Also in Albany, NY aboard the USS SLATER destroyer escort in honor of my grandfather.
New guy from Texas. Work for the state as a LEO. Not that kind, the kind that would quit if pushed to violate citizens 2A rights.
Started with a 18" Balistic Advantage barrel that I was going to throw in an existing upper. Built a whole new gun around it. Such a great caliber I upgraded the BA to a Proof. So impressed with this great little caliber.
Been experimenting w Velocity & accuracy potential with this monolithic 90 grain bullet in the Howa 22" mini. Looking like Accurate 2460 may be the powder I settle on. Although I have not tried CFE 223 or Leverevolution with this bullet yet.
With the A2460 in my Howa bolt gun The node was looking promising at 29.1 grains in terms of accuracy. More testing will need to be done to verify as I was only doing 3 shot groups.
Above 29.1 accuracy & ES started to erode. 29.1 GR is plenty compressed so as we go up from there the degree of compression only increases & I expect this is the reason accuracy & ES was falling off.
