  Factory ammo ?
Posted by: Bassfish1952 - 10-04-2022, 10:54 PM - Forum: 6mmARC Bolt Actions - Replies (6)

Looking at the Velocity listed for factory ammo at Hornady It would seem that their ammo is loaded for Bolt guns. It says with a test barrel of 24" for bolt and  Gas gun is 18" barrel

Looking at their reloading data for bolt and gas , I cannot find a powder charge that would give what's listed on the site and what is supposed to be for a gas gun .

Does barrel length change that much ?

What am I missing

Reason I am asking, on YouTube a reloader was talking about how much can be done for the bolt guns since factory is loaded for gas guns but it seems the factory ammo is just 1 step down from MAX Load in their reload data for Bolt guns

Thanks

  A handgun in 6mm ARC
Posted by: Newmexican - 10-02-2022, 01:01 PM - Forum: 6mmARC Deals, Information, New Products - Replies (4)

I recently acquired a CVA Scout V2 in 6.5 Grendel, and posted a photo over at Specialty Pistols with the comment that I would love to see this platform in 6mm ARC. Then another forum member posted this link. Very intrigued. The barrels for the CVA Scouts are made by Bergara.

  Requested 6ARC Brass from Peterson
Posted by: BluntForceTrauma - 09-27-2022, 04:12 PM - Forum: 6mmARC Deals, Information, New Products - Replies (1)

On Peterson Cartridge's website, I used the Contact feature to send them a message yesterday:

SUBJECT: Request for 6.5 Grendel and 6mm ARC Brass

BODY: AR15 shooters shoot a lot of rounds and use a lot of brass. You guys considered offering cases for 6.5 Grendel and 6mm ARC? They're based on the same parent case to make it easy on ya.

Peterson's response today (I appreciate the fast response):

We hope to be making 6 ARC in the 1st quarter of 2023. Not so sure on the 6.5 Grendel. Thank you for reaching out. Have a great day.

=================

Now, from what I hear Peterson brass quality is as good as Lapua, and they cost a few pennies less. What would be great for the average shooter, however, is if Starline made 6ARC brass for $0.60 each, instead of the typical $1.10 from Peterson or the $1.20 from Lapua. The real cost, of course, depends on how many good reloadings one can get from each piece of Starline, Peterson, or Lapua brass.

New Barrel is in from PacNor
Posted by: Bassfish1952 - 09-26-2022, 05:43 PM - Forum: 6mmARC Bolt Actions - Replies (16)

Got my barreled action back from PacNor today, looks great can't wait to try it out. I put in my old stock and was able to run a sheet of paper between the barrel and the stock all the way to where barrel is screwed to the action . Is that good or do I need to remove some wood ?
Thanks

  My gas gun load development
Posted by: Burt Gummer - 09-25-2022, 10:35 PM - Forum: 6mmARC Ammunition and Reloading - Replies (23)

Hey Folks

I’ve been pretty hard at work scavenging a bunch of components since late 21 and have finally put enough of my own rounds down range to post my results with some confidence. First things first.

Barrel: CLE 18” Criterion
Upper: Vltor Mur
Lower: Aero M4E1
Trigger: TriggerTech Diamond
Bolt: JP Enterprises Enhanced 6.5 Grendel
Stock: MDT SCS (skeleton carbine stock)
Scope: Crimson Trace 6-24x Hardline Pro

To start I ordered hundreds of Hornady 108 Match and and 105 Black to not only shoot for fun but to harvest the brass. Both of them shot terribly in my barrel and would normally be 1.5-2 MOA which is exactly my luck. Velocity was better than expected at an average of 2609 fps with the 108’s and 2669 fps with the 105’s. I was simultaneously getting into reloading for this reason since I don’t expect to see other Manufacturers jumping in anytime soon.

After sighting in the scope with factory rounds and collecting brass it took some time but I collected enough Lever, CFE223, Accurate 2520, and Winchester 748 to start my load development. I wanted to start off using the Barnes 112 gr Matchburner because the price as well as the BC’s were just too good to ignore. Not to mention they’re always available!

A few weeks ago I took a batch of my loaded 112’s to the range. The best loads with each of the following powders were as follows on a 77 degree day and 5 shots per group:

LEVR: 28 gr @ 2500 fps = 1.04 MOA

CFE223: 27.8 gr @ 2463 fps = .86 MOA

A2520: 27.8 gr @ 2505 fps = .89 MOA

WIN 748: 27.3 gr @ 2493 = .75 MOA

In my opinion the results aren’t spectacular but not terrible. I was shooting for .75 MOA as the minimum accuracy I wanted to achieve in order to have a long range steel plinker. I wanted to see just how capable this barrel could be and tried something new.

My brass is in the tumbler as I type from my range time today. I was confirming the accuracy node with the 748 and 112 Matchburners which went well but the main reason for making the trip out was to see if Berger 109 Hybrids could live up to their reputation. I’m still trying different powder charges with the bergers so I can’t speak to which is the best loads yet but here’s the results I’m comfortable with sharing:

LEVR: 28 gr @ 2528 fps = .89 MOA

Win 748: 27.1 gr @ 2520 fps = .5 MOA

I couldn’t wipe the grin off my face after realizing I had a .5 MOA gas gun with just a little tinkering and experimenting with components! Leaning heavily towards the 748 now. I also feel that 748 doesn’t get enough exposure with the 6 ARC but I can tell you in my case it can’t be beat. My LabRadar missed 3/5 shots so I’m extrapolating from other data to come up with the velocity stated above but with the Barnes 112’s my ES was 12 with SD’s of 4. Hope this was informative for you guys and just wanted to contribute something to the community.
Big Grin

  Brownells ammo
Posted by: Panshovevo - 09-22-2022, 12:31 AM - Forum: 6mmARC Deals, Information, New Products - Replies (2)

Brownells has Hornady 105 gr BTHP 6 ARC back in stock. $299 for 200 rounds, or 20 rd box for $31.95.

Battle Hawk Armory has 108 gr ELD-M for $32.94 per 20 rd box.
I bought some Active Duty 9mm (hot service round by Winchester) from Battle Hawk recently. Even with relatively high shipping, it was a good deal.

Beebe Family Arms had 108 gr ELD-M listed for under $23 per box recently. Having never dealt with them, I ran the web address through scam-detector.com. Got a great rating, but it said the site was a car rental outfit… I passed.

Been seeing a sh1tpile of scam sites lately. Guns, ammo, parts and accessories. Warning signs are typically don’t take credit cards, want Zelle, Venmo, PayPal friends and family, crypto…using any of these leave you with no recourse when your order doesn’t show.
Latest twist I’ve seen is use of major credit card logos, with a message saying their processor is temporarily down, but they’ll give you a discount if you use one of the cash apps.

  Lupua brass issue
Posted by: Ordsgt - 09-18-2022, 07:23 PM - Forum: 6mmARC Ammunition and Reloading - Replies (18)

Do to difficulty in obtaining 6 ARC brass I managed to get some Lupua 6.5 new Grendel brass. Formed in 6 ARC Small base dies and trimmed to spec. no issues. Fired the rounds with 28 gr CFE 223 over a cci match primer and Hornady 108 ELD match. Same load I have been using with the Hornady cases I have. Groups run 3/4 inch to 1 1/4 for 5 shot groups. This fired with an AR and a 22 inch barrel.
Now the issue on a few of the Lupua brass cases. After 1 or 2 firings I find the case will not go in my case checker. Close inspection reveals a ridge has formed at the base of the cartridge case . Never seen this before and am unsure why. It only occurs with the lupua brass. It has only happened to 3 out of the 100 Lupua cases I am using. Any suggestions?

  6.5 grendel to 6mm arc

When necking down 6.5 Grendel to 6mm ARC, do you trim the case before necking down or after?
