Hey guys. I have a CMMG Endeavor 300 in 6mm ARC with their factory 20" barrel. I'm going to continue some testing and load development for it as soon as the weather warms a bit but so far I'm not excited with the accuracy of the barrel. I don't think it's going to be a keeper.
So, if a person wanted to get a really nice AR-15 barrel, maybe 22-24 inches to swap into this CMMG AR15 what brands should I consider? I'm looking for target shooting steel hopefully out to 1000 yards. I'd like to to be able to put the majority of my shots onto a full size IPSC steel target at 1000 yards if that's possible.
I saw on youTube a guy posting about his Mos Tek 6mm ARC barrel getting shots on target out to a mile with factory Hornady ELD match ammo. I wasn't familiar with that brand but that seems like maybe something I would consider.
I have tried 2, the MDT 5 rnd. 308 and their 8 rnd. Valkyrie. The Valkyrie was a failure and unusable. I took a dremel tool to the lips but went a bit too far and the mag will not keep more than 1 rnd down. It is now my single feed mag and works as I can easily push in a rnd into the mag through the receiver. I had to do a little tuning on the 308 and it is working nicely but a proper 6 arc would be better. Looking for any info on aics mags for the arc.
Hello all,
I'm retired LEO and have been shooting pistol, AR-style rifles, just usually tactical type stuff, and recently got into long range shooting with 260 Rem.
I saw the 6mm ARC cartridge come out and decided to build a premier AR-15 6mm ARC long distance target rifle shooting from 600 to 1,000 yards. I have access to such a range nearby, and I am really looking forward to developing loads, testing out different equipment for it, and really learning all about the capabilities of this smaller shorter AR15 cartridge out to 1,000 yards and beyond. I will really lean on this community for advice and help with things, and hopefully, I will be able to offer some help, too, as people continue to join.
Right now, I need advice on triggers - I've still got the mil-spec trigger - and want an adjustable, reliable drop-in trigger, not a 'hair' trigger, but very light and crisp.
Thanks for having me here, and I'll look forward to engaging here for a long time to come.
so i spoke with mcgowen and they will do another 28" in barrel for me this time its going to be in 6mm arc
im going to go the same is ai did with my grendel 28" +2 gas straight taper to .936 at the muzzle/ i have yet to decide on twist rate but i belive im going to go with 1-7 or 1-7.5
lead time is a bit long but worth the wait the results out of my 28" grendel were/are amazing.
as usually ill pair this with a billet upper and this time around a billet 20" handguard , rtb nickle low mass carrier and the mod1 bolt from bfg
i expect this thing to recoil about as much as a .22lr rifle
while im playing around with the 6mm stuff i also spoke to them about cutting me a one off 30" 6mm creed barrel so this may also be in the works as well
From the FWIW department: A source with connections to the French MoD says their special forces purchased 6mm ARC rifles and ammo, planning to do testing this year.
I will soon turn 74, I have built my first and maybe last AR15 and chose 6mm ARC. I'm 95% a reloader and bench shooter. I have access to a 100-200 yard range, but also access to a BPCR silhouette range out to 1000 yards. I would like to set up my new build to shoot mostly at 100-200 yards but occasionally go out to 200-1000yards. What do your recommend for an inexpensive scope and bases/rings for the above. Thanks in advance, Doug
I know the 243 can't be chambered in an AR15, only AR10 ?
I don't have a load manual with the ARC loadings.... would someone give the ballistics for a 103 SST or a another varmint heavier bullet grain for both?
The following post is going to be picture heavy, but I think it can help some of the folks new to reloading, especially if shelf ammo is going to continue being scarce.
The info is "basic" in nature, but I believe it will help a new reloader avoid some issues, especially for gassers. The main thing is to help them load SAFE ammo.
here goes....
I recommend investing in a Sheridan Engineering Slotted case gauge, the utility it provides is immense throughout the whole reloading process of setting up sizing dies, checking shoulder bump, checking trim length, checking bullet seating depth for ALL bullet types and checking cartridge overall length in regards to magazine fit (which can vary among brands & styles). Brad cuts the gauges with a SAAMI spec reamer so if the ammo you produce fits in it, you should have no issues feeding and firing that ammo. Due the slot, you can visually ascertain where an issue lies and make the appropriate adjustment before you start loading up any cartridges. DISCLAIMER: I don't have any relationship with Sheridan other than I am a customer and use their gauges for all of my rifle calibers....I receive no gratuities, discounts, freebies, nada from Sheridan. They are just a good product and saved me alot of time debugging ammo related issues....I wish they had them 35+ years ago.
If you are converting brass, it also allows you to check that converted brass before you even begin priming, charging and seating a bullet. No one likes to deconstruct a bunch of loaded rounds.
When fire-forming converted brass, it is preferred that the shoulder bump is as close to the SAAMI spec as possible to prevent gas leakage and to get a more defined shoulder definition. It also allows for less powder to be used, something to consider for those experiencing shortages or lack of variety.
The attached picture shows my converted Starline 6.5 Grendel brass in the gauge, note the conformity of the shoulder bump, case rim at minimum and the trim length. I was fortunate that my Hornady Custom dies were pretty much spot on, only a minor tweak was needed.
I built my gun with an Aero BCG. Had the bolt matched to the barrel when it was chambered. I noticed a headspace change (.0015-.002") when measuring my fired brass. I started looking around and found the lugs on the back side of the bolt are a little worn and very lightly mushroomed.
So I'm going to replace the bolt. Any suggestions. Are JP bolts worth the money? I would try a Monster but can't find one. Maxim?
