Max Seating Depth Variations in barrels
Posted by: alwie - 03-08-2022, 03:36 PM - Forum: 6mmARC Ammunition and Reloading - Replies (6)

I have two barrels made by different manufacturers. For the same bullet the seating depth seems to vary btw .050” to 0.100”, depending on the bullet. Is it normal to have that much variation? Seems like a lot to me.

  What/which/who's dies?
Posted by: GRH - 03-08-2022, 02:25 PM - Forum: 6mmARC Ammunition and Reloading - Replies (18)

As parts are trickling in to put together my upper, I've been thinking about components and dies.

I figure since Hornady came up with it, I might just get their dies (?) or RCBS SB dies as a place to start. What's working for you, and what should be avoided?

  RCBS seating plug issue
Posted by: 6mmbrguy - 03-07-2022, 04:40 PM - Forum: 6mmARC Ammunition and Reloading - Replies (4)

I have the RCBS AR series dies. I've been loading 87gr Vmax bullets without any issues..
I picked up a few boxes of 103gr ELD-X bullets Saturday and started loading some Sunday. When I tried to seat the first bullet, it stuck in the seating plug. No matter how far I ran the plug down, it wouldn't stay in the case neck. I tried several cases and had the same issue.
So I removed the plug and hit it with some fine grit sandpaper. No help.. I ended up taking the plug out of my 243 die and trying it.. Worked great...

I've contacted RCBS about the issue and waiting on a reply. In the meantime, I'm going to mix up some JB Weld and fill the plug with it. Before setting up, I'm going to form it with a bullet and let it harden.

Anyone else ever experience this with a plug? In my 35years of reloading, I've never had this happen.

  100 GR. TGK SKU: 4110
Posted by: CZ527 Guy - 03-07-2022, 01:24 AM - Forum: 6mmARC Ammunition and Reloading - No Replies

Started experimenting with these Sierra 100 GR TGK's this afternoon. shooting the 22" CZ527 again. Only loaded 7 rounds in .5 gr increments up to 30.5 grains of Power Pro 2000 MR. Looking to test for pressure & velocity. Velocity started at 2415 & peaked out at a mere 2666 & I am not expecting much more in terms of greater velocity / pressure potential.

With what little Power Pro 2000 I have shot so far, Im of the opinion this is a slow lot.

Good news is all 7 rounds from the 27.5 gr load to the 30.5 gr load printed near MOA with 5 rounds falling sub .5 MOA. with a 15 mile an hour tail wind and the bayonet on the barrel. Where does a guy go from here?

Last 2 rounds at 30.0 gr & 30.5 gr yielded 2666 & 2650 respectively. These Fed 205 primers look like we have room for more pressure yet, How much more pressure. Tempted try some Win Small rifle primers with the thinner cup to get a better feel for pressure. I have been seeing slightly pierced primers with those WSR's as max load is being approached.

Future 6mm ARC load Data, Gas & bolt gun
Posted by: CZ527 Guy - 03-05-2022, 11:30 PM - Forum: 6mmARC Ammunition and Reloading - Replies (5)

What should we look forward to in terms of additional 6mm ARC load data? Suppose I am a little over anxious for Nosler & Sierra load data. More I think about this the more I doubt we will see anything more interns of Bolt gun load data for non Hornady bullets.

Additional Bolt gun load data is what I am honestly a bit thirsty for. Suppose I really should be quite happy with what is out there currently. Recently acquired some Sierra SKU: 4110 100 Grain TGK & the SKU: 1570 107 gr HPBT MATCHKING.

Aw we are currently looking at another cold snowy windy weekend & I am just a bit impatient for better shooting weather.

Won't be long & we will be looking at mosquito season.

  Johnnys Reloading Bench RL15.5 Vid

I'm sure some of you have watched it. There were a lot of comments theorizing what happened with the 6 ARC load and why the belting. I'm pretty sure to much of the wrong powder was mostly to blame. But a lot of people were wondering about case differences including me since I've gotten a little belting on my Laupa brass. So I hacked a few open.

  new project going
Posted by: Mel - 03-02-2022, 08:26 PM - Forum: Various & Sundry - Replies (2)

got a new project im working on

7 rsaum on an ar10 platform it was originally supposed to be a 300 wsm or rsaum but lack of components killed that rather quickly
mcgowen is doing the barrel for me somewere in the 28-30" range, +3 gas system, with a fast for caliber twist rate for launching the long n heavy high bc projectiles , going to build this on a billet upper and lower set with a kak high pressure magnum face bolt

things should get interesting with this one

as usual im sure ill be tempted to take this thing varmint/predator hunting as well atleast once as i fully expect this rifle to come in around 30+ pounds

the original goal was to build a full magnum sized ar10 but no one will sell u just the receiver sets anymore , instead they now wanna sell u a whole very high priced rifle so this is the next best thing i could come up with

Long time shooter and reloader from WV. Just completed a simple ARC build on the AR platform. Looks like a bolt action will be the next project in an ARC.
