  Lever Test Load Results
Posted by: r.tenorio671 - 02-03-2022, 11:04 AM - Forum: 6mmARC Ammunition and Reloading - Replies (11)

...some chrony results from todays testing w/LeverEvolution & miscellaneous bullets.  The intent of the tests was to check for pressure signs.  Brass is converted virgin Starline 6.5G converted that was annealed before sizing & trim, CCI 400 small rifle primers. Chrony used is a Chrony Beta Master. Approx 85F/80%H, cloudy w/scattered showers, altitude 600ft.  Due this being the 1st firing of virgin brass I expected wildly high SD/ES numbers, which did occur.

Barrel: 18" Ballisitic Advantage, RLGS w/SLR AGB, std carbine buffer system, VG6 6.5 GAMMA Brake

Berger 95 Classic Hunter, CBTO 1.686", COAL 2.174"
28.4 = 2595 fps avg
28.7 = 2623 fps avg
29.1 = ERR

Berger 95 VLD, CBTO 1.660", COAL 2.257"
28.4 = 2600 fps avg
28.7 = 2632 fps avg
29.1 = 2669F fps avg

Berger 105 VLD, CBTO 1.659", COAL 2.255"
28.4 = 2603 fps avg
28.7 = 2594 fps avg (had 1 round 50fps slower than rest, possible chrony issue)
29.1 = 2677 fps avg

Hornady 87 VMAX, CBTO 1.661", COAL 2.130"
30.0 = 2817 fps avg
30.4 = 2881 fps avg
30.9 2965 fps avg

Hornady 90 ELDX, CBTO 1.655", COAL 2.167"
29.8 = 2790 fps avg
30.1 = 2789 fps avg
30.4 = 2867 fps avg

Hornady 108 ELDM, CBTO 1.684", COAL 2.250"
28.5 = 2594 fps avg
28.8 = 2583 fps avg
29.1 = 2611 fps avg

Nosler 105 RDF, CBTO 1.679", COAL 2.245"
28.4 = 2596 fps avg
28.7 = 2614 fps avg
29.1 = 2672 fps avg

The biggest take-away for me was that I  more than likely can go up in charges for more speed as none of the brasss had any visible or obvious pressure signs, no ejector marks, shines or digs, brass was ejecting on a 3:30-4:00 pattern approx 2 steps away in a nice little pile. I started my loads in the approximate "middle" charge of data available between Hornady & Hodgdon.  The recommendations I received from Berger for their bullets was VERY conservative, I exceed them.  Next round will be the highest charge weights from this test in this now 1x fired brass. My goal is for all bullets to have a fps that stays supersonic to 1100-1200.

YMMV, work your way up safely!

  Outer Edge Projectile 65gr BBT Reloader 10X
Posted by: Bill - 01-29-2022, 08:08 AM - Forum: 6mmARC Ammunition and Reloading - Replies (3)

Just getting back into work after some time off when I thought Id give the Howa Mini ARC some range time, my local shop is a bit thin on projectiles but they do stock a locally made CNC Copper projectile.  They offer a Hunting bullet  which includes a Ball bear tip which improves the BC by a further 8-15%. The projectiles have a well placed pressure reducing groove and come with a coatin to aid speed.  Ive used there 107gr in my old 6.5 grendel but the projectile was a touch to long and robbed the case of capacity, accuracy was good but speeds were down

I do have CFE223 and leverevolution on hand but Im out of 8208 so Reloader 10x got the nod, its a powder Ive used with good accuracy with the Berger 64gr Column projectiles so I loaded up 30 rounds with 6 diff weight and I'm off to the range tmw for testing.

  Gordons Reloading tool, not good news...
Posted by: GRH - 01-27-2022, 03:02 PM - Forum: 6mmARC Ammunition and Reloading - Replies (10)

Checking Patreon this AM and very sadly Gordon has passed away.

Obviously future is an unknown. All forms have a built in end date (free/Patreon) and will stop working 06/01/2022. There is a work around for it and have done it successfully.

Stop in say a word if so inclined, the instructions regarding keeping it running are posted in a new channel #end date work around.

  70 VG & 8208XBR
Posted by: r.tenorio671 - 01-27-2022, 09:50 AM - Forum: 6mmARC Ammunition and Reloading - No Replies

...finally got out to test the build and get some chrony data for Nosler 70gn Vgdon w/8208XBR.  Only chronied the max charge weight I tested, the lower charges were primarily just to put rounds down the tube and adjust the gas block.

Pertinent build info: 18" BA w/RLGS, 1:7 twist, standard carbine buffer, tube & spring, SLR Sentry 7 AGB. No muzzle device used, thread protector only.  Arken SH4 Gen2 4-16X50 on Arken 20MOA mount.

Testing ambient air temp 85F, 79% Humidity, 590 ft altitude, chrony  measured  at 15 ft forward of muzzle, chrony type=Chrony Beta Master.

Load info:  Virgin Starline 6.5G converted to 6ARC, brass annealed before sizing in Hornady sizing die. CCI 400 primers,  30.0gns 8208XBR, Nosler 70VG FB seated at CBTO 1.6415", COAL 2.1215" (avg) .  AVG VELOCITY = 3076 FPS

No pressure signs, no ejector smears, no extractor rim damage, primers very slight flattening but still have a little rounded edge.

Surprisingly, it was definitely well under a MOA grouping for all of the 5 charges tested and I wasn't shooting for groups, just needed a consistent aiming point so bullets would pass over the chrony sensors correctly. Due to getting out late, didn't get data on the 105 RDF's w/748...sunlight angle was low so 1st 2 rounds errored out so I stopped, will pick up next time. The main objective was to test build function and zero scope, both accomplished so I'm glad for that.

My data presented here is uniiqe to and safe in MY build, YMMV so work up your loads in a safe manner.

The whole target, not just one group. Big Grin I admit I'm no sniper and shoot better when I get into a rhythm. This is my last target when having extractor issues. And I have plenty more excuses if you don't buy that one. I also tend to pull to the right.

  Hornady 6mmARC 106gr TAP
Posted by: BluntForceTrauma - 01-22-2022, 08:02 PM - Forum: 6mmARC Deals, Information, New Products - Replies (16)

Came across a 6mm ARC LISTING on Hornady's website, but doubt if this product has yet seen the light of day.

Claims to use a 6mm 106gr with a G1 BC of 0.580. That's quite a claim, considering Berger's brilliant 6mm 109gr G1 BC is "only" 0.568.

Anybody heard anything more about Hornady's 6mmARC TAP load?
