Reloader 15.5. Has anyone tried this powder? |

Finally finished my 6mm Arc build……and yes I’m new here so I figured I’d join up if I’m becoming part of the 6mm Arc family
Mega upper/lower
18” SS Proof
Seeking precision adjustable gas block
CMC 2 stage
JP bolt and carrier
Looking at reloading data and can only find Hornady published loads.
I’ve never handloaded for a gas gun
But I have 3 decades of handloading experience in bolt action rifles
Question: has anyone tried Reloader 15.5 powder. I’m hearing it’s very temp intensive and it falls in between:
CFE 223 and Leverevolution
I’m looking to develop a deer hunting load and target load
Both these powders give the best velocities. But are not known for temperature stability. It seems Reloader 15.5 might be ideal for speed and temp stability.
Leaning towards 3 billets for hunting:
90 grain Nosler accubond
95 grain Nosler BT
103 grain Hornady ELDX
For target I haven’t decided but something from Berger or Sierra with high BC

I just built an ARC using an Aero upper, Tactical Kinetics 20" barrel, Odin AGB, Faxon bolt, cheap 17" handguard, mounted on a Joe Bob's lower with a 3.5# single stage trigger, topped with an Arken EP5 MRAD scope and 20 MOA mount. Went to the ranch yesterday with my boys and nephew to try our luck shooting out to 1k yards. Once dialed in at 200, we hit plates at 450yds, 650yds and then 1000yds. So much fun and 1000yds is a long ways, especially when you've never shot past 500. Lol. The ARC did well and started shooting great after 40 rounds, however, it doesn't like the Hornady Black ammo much. My thrown together 108gr ELD-M reloads shot great and were used for the 1000yd plate. Now to work on precise load development and shoot more.

Howa 20" Break-in |

I bought a Howa Mini barreled action with the 20" barrel from Brownell's. Also bought a Stocky's VGM for it, along with the Jefferson Outdoors blind mag bottom metal. Everything arrived a couple weeks ago and it's all assembled. I ordered the Talley extended rings for it and have a 3-9 Nikon on it right now. Too late for Deer season for me, but I'm ready to load some ammo and see what it can do.
Has anyone got a sense for whether the Howa 20" barrel responds well to a barrel break-in process? I'm going to do a shoot-clean cycle for the first 10 shots while I get the scope more or less sighted, then maybe a couple 5 shot groups and clean before I do any serious load development.
The consensus I got from speaking with a few smiths was that custom barrels benefit less from this than factory barrels, and ideally, I'm not looking to go through dozens and dozens or rounds, and prolonged cleanings for what will be a hunting rifle for me.
That said, like the old saying goes, "Only accurate rifles are interesting".
