  Help again. Powder scale ?
Posted by: Bassfish1952 - 05-31-2023, 09:00 PM - Forum: 6mmARC Ammunition and Reloading - Replies (13)

Spent part of the afternoon playing with salt. The digital scale (A) I bought on Amazon vs Lee Safety powder scale. (B) from my Lee kit. After about 45min the scale B was repeating itself THEN it wasn't  I tried to go for 28.4gr which was my lowest Hornady load  scale A showed 29.2 for a while then went to 29.5.
The scale B showed 28.5 or 28.6 . I had a hard time reading the .1gr lines.

I weighted on the Lee B first then transferred salt to scale A tapping the pan under bright light to ensure no salt left behind.

So what scale do you guys recommend . The balance beam is repeatable but I'm lost on reading the .1 gr lines so I can load the same each time but may be off .1 or .2 from real weight . I would prefer an electronic scale

Throw some names out there

What do you guys think of the M2 Hornady scale ?

Thanks

  55 GR Hammer Hunter
Posted by: CZ527 Guy - 05-30-2023, 03:14 AM - Forum: 6mmARC Ammunition and Reloading - Replies (4)

Started playing with the 55 gr Hammer this evening at the range. Only tried 3 rounds over A2200 Rem 7.5 primers.

ES was nothing to write home about with 3450, 3439 & 3470. Group size suggested this load was worth attempting to improve on with seating depth or a crimp & or a primer. 1st & second rounds were nearly stacked w a group of .1ish & the 3rd round opened up to .3ish. Most promising accuracy I have seen yet from this rifleSmile

  First reloads
Posted by: Bassfish1952 - 05-28-2023, 06:48 PM - Forum: 6mmARC Ammunition and Reloading - Replies (11)

I started at Hornady load for 90gr GMX at 2700 fps all are with LR powder, 24" barrel , CZ527 rifle

2700 -   28.4gr powder
2800 -   29.5gr
2850 -   30.0gr
2900 -   30.6gr
2950 -   31.1gr
3000 -    31.7

out of Hornady reloading app.
 What I got
2700-  was 2885,2899, 2878
2800- was  3117,2963, 3017
2850- was 3045,3014 and one round wouldn't chamber ( may have missed it when I sized the last time) checking
2900-  was 3033, 3141
2950- was 3123
and
3000- was 3150

The 3050 load filled the brass case so I did not try to compress.

The Factory cases ran 2728,2758, 2742

Rounds below are starting with 2700 to far right in green case working to left with highest at left case wall and the 3000 load at the top of picture.
Factory loads are black case

Take aways from my first reloading experience
1. I am going to check my electronic scale against my manual scale not sure of it.
2. My Magnetospeed loosened after several shots and I didn't catch it soon enough so could have been the strange spreads I got on some.

Below are pictures of the primers

  Hunting vs Target opinion needed
Posted by: Bassfish1952 - 05-27-2023, 12:04 PM - Forum: 6mmARC Hunting & Varminting - Replies (8)

I hunt and normally range shoot just to zero. But have started shooting more at the range as I get older. In Hunting I use a 2x7 or a 3x9 scope as they give me the largest  field of view for acquiring my target against wooded background but recognize that my exact point of aim is more by instinct than seeing a 1" spot on the deer.

My question is
with these scopes should I expect different grouping ability or should I be able to maintain the same group size with all at 100 yds

I'll be honest with my 2x7 FOV on low 43.8' I am able to see better but group size is bigger than using a friends 4x12 at the range.

I see guys on YouTube getting very small group size but see also that they are using a scope that would not be viable in Alabama shooting on stand at 30 yds or so

I don't want to excuse bad aim but at the same time want to be realistic with expected grouping

second thought I was thinking of picking up a 4x12 scope and mounting with the quick release scope mounts, once it is sighted in does it return to zero after removing or is that just sells pitch ?

Thanks

Everyone knows I am new to reloading and ask dumb questions BUT better dumb than dead. Is there anything that can be taken from this video ?

WTT or maybe sell, some .308 cal bullets
Posted by: grayfox - 05-21-2023, 05:18 PM - Forum: Miscellaneous Buy, Sell, or Trade - No Replies

I have several .308 boxes of bullets, I probably won't be shooting, as my pref's have changed.
Maybe you have some 6mm/ 6.5mm or a few .308 we could trade...

What I have:
1. 2 boxes Hornady 165 sst (100 ea)
2. Nosler - 4 boxes 165 BT (50 ea)
3. Nosler - 1 partial box maybe 45 +/- 165 Partitions (I'll get a count if someone is interested)
4. Nosler - 168 BT, 1 box (50)
5. Nosler 168 CC, 1 box and partial, est 90 +/-.

We can agree to divvy up the shipping as needed. I plan to use usps flat rate boxes generally.

Or if interested in buying outright let me know.

I'm using/interested in currently (and short supply of)
1. .308 only the 125 Tgk or 125 Sst, or 130 ttsx. Well, come to think of it, 125 gr Nosler's too.
2. 6mm - 100 gr tgk's
3. 6.5's - 100 gr hornady eldm or 100 gr Nosler BT.
4. 6.5 - 129 ablr (maybe you bought but decided against them lol)

Others maybe... PM me with any details.
Will try to go pretty much 1 for 1, or whatever seems reasonable as we've each already bought the respective boxes.
Thanks.
