WTS: NEW Savage 110 Switchback 6ARC Bolt Action
Posted by: kevad68 - 05-31-2022, 02:59 PM - Forum: 6mmARC Buy, Sell, or Trade - Replies (5)

NEW Savage 110 Switchback 6ARC Bolt Action

Bought this a few months ago from Sportsmans Warehouse but ended up just ordering new 6ARC barrels for my son's and my Bighorn TL3's instead and never used it.

Brand new but no box (I had to ship a lever action .22 rifle back to Henry for warranty work and used it for that and Henry didn't return it). Just trying to get close to what I paid.

I know I'm new here, but I've also sold on GB, fleabay, and SH under the same ID with hundreds of positive feedback.

$550 shipped to your FFL.

  Savage Axis II 6mm ARC
Posted by: Dino11 - 05-29-2022, 10:20 PM - Forum: 6mmARC Bolt Actions - Replies (3)

My latest project, I procured an Axis II on sale for $349.00 at a local gun shop and the plastic stock was a piece of junk. Lots of forend flex and I knew this was going to be a problem before I put the fist round down the barrel.

The plan was to put a new stock or chassis on it right up front before the first range session. I got an MTD Oryx chassis for $399.00, I know more money than what the rifle cost, and luck upon a couple of Savage AICS 6mm ARC magazines. Found them on Ebay for $65.00 each shipped, pretty good deal for new AICS mags that are very hard to find. The Savage MTD mags are made of thicker steel than the conventional MDT mags. They have a spacer block in the rear to position the cartridge in the right orientation.

These mags will allow me to load rounds out to 2.400 COAL, so a little more room to play with shooting the heavies. Of all the ARCS I have handled this is the smoothest chambering and exstacting rifle to date, it is butter smooth with very little effort. Bolt lift is a little stiff but it is new and might settle in after some rounds are put through it. I did take the bolt apart and lubed it with my high moly content special sauce. It works much better now and may get a bolt lift kit for it if it needs one down the road.

Going to the range tomorrow after I pay my respects to the fallen soldiers that gave their lives to assure my freedom, and I hope you do the same.

  Restarting load development
Posted by: r.tenorio671 - 05-28-2022, 01:50 AM - Forum: 6mmARC Ammunition and Reloading - Replies (6)

...about to restart my load development now that (1) I have sufficient LVR (2) my barrel has ~150+ rounds thru it.  I also picked up a 500qty box of 107 SMK's. I pressure tested them up to 29.1 gns and all looked good.  I also received my MagnetoSpeed V3 which should allow better/easier capture of data from my old CHRONY Beta that I clipped on my last outing to pressure test the SMK's.  One thing I'm going to change is to load to COAL's recommended by the Berger, Hornady & Hodgdon data for the specific bullets I have.  Most of the heavies call for the 2.260" COAL, but lighter projectile's vary.

....I'll post my results if anything worthy shows up, good or bad.  To be honest, so far my results have been pretty much similar to what others have posted.  Due my location, my temps average 85F/60-85%RH year round so it may be helpful for folks developing their summer loads.....maybe.

I just joined up here. I have been shooting and reloading for more than 40 years. I shot high-power competition for most of that time mostly with 223 and went nationally distinguished in 1995. I also hunt, deer, pigs, turkeys, and elk.

I have shot the 6AR and the 6ARturbo40 for 12 years. I currently have the 6ARturbo40 running in 16", 24", 26", and 28" barrels, all Krieger. I purchased a 6ARC with a Proof CF 18" barrel about 10 months ago.

The 6ARC is shooting some handloads made from 6.5 Grendel brass and I finally found some Hornady ammo in 103 gr to shoot in it. All of these shoots sub-MOA and are a pleasure to shoot.

For the deer and pigs, I use 80 to 90 grain bullets from Hornady, Nosler, and Barnes. All kill very effectively. Killed over 100 last year and 36 so far this year.

I got the 6ARC for the lighter weight rifle but have not shot a pig with it.

I am still looking for 6ARC brass, as I am sure most everyone is.

  95 VLD with AR Comp
Posted by: IALoder - 05-24-2022, 09:48 PM - Forum: 6mmARC Ammunition and Reloading - Replies (8)

Hey guys, I just started playing with Berger 95 VLD target bullets and Varget in my 24" AR15, and after venturing about .5gr above Hornady's 95gr gas gun data(super short bearing surface on the VLD, thought it'd be okay, showed no pressure signs). I'm not getting the velocity I'm looking for.  I have some N140 and AR Comp that I'm wanting to try since I've found better velocity in .308 and .223 with them vs Varget. I can't seem to find much of any info the way of load data for AR Comp in the 6mm ARC. Anybody have any experience with AR Comp/95gr in 6ARC?

  Bad Range Day
Posted by: r.tenorio671 - 05-14-2022, 03:49 AM - Forum: 6mmARC Ammunition and Reloading - Replies (4)

...don't you just hate those range days that go bad from the get go?

Went to test my recently acquired Sierra 107 SMK's in a ladder test, along with some seating depth tests for Nosler 105 RDF's and Hornady 108 ELDM's.

1st shot of SMK's over the chrony registered 2538 (28.5 LVR/1.715 CBTO), 2nd shot clipped the chrony....arrrghhh!  Oh well, now I have reason enough to order the MagnetoSpeed v3.  Was still able to pressure test the 28.8 & 29.1 loads, all was good, no pressure signs.

Tested out the Berger recommendations for VLD seating and ran the 105VLD's at CBTO's of 1.643, 1.673 and 1.710 w/29.1 LVR.  Berger claims a "significant" difference would be noted in these large jump amounts.  In my test the difference between 1.673 & 1.710 was "somewhat" significant compared to the 1.643 -vs- 1.673, but because I was already bummed over the chrony mishap, I wasn't really "focused" for shooting groups, more like just blasting thru my anger.  I paid the range fee already so I was gonna make smoke & noise at least, LOL.

The Hornady tests (1.662, 1.722 & 1.742 CBTO's) was pretty much the same, BUT....I did discover something different between my Duramag & E-Lander mags.  With the Hornady 108 ELDM seated to a 1.742" CBTO, they were too long to fit the E-Landers.  The same rounds would fit in the Duramags easily with no problem.  During the loading, EACH cartridge was seated & measured so the CBTO was consistent.  I would seat a bit long and adjust the micrometer down, measure, repeat until I hit the mark.  I also confirmed & re-measured a week later before heading to the range to ensure no movement occurred.  None of the loads felt compressed, but it was just a precaution I took to gather good data.  Again, the group sizes were not what I would call "significantly" different between them, again, the caveat of being in a bad mood not making for some focused shooting.

Hopefully Graf's will get my MagnetoSpeed order out quickly, I'm kind of anxious to really test out these SMK's.  The single captured 2538 FPS of the lowest charge has JBM predicting it will be supersonic to 1200 yds.
