Hello all!
I’ve wanted a range rifle in 6mm BR for quite some time now, but was always a bit daunted by the price of buying or building what would essentially be a paper puncher. I could afford to do so, but couldn’t quite justify the expense with two kids still in school. That, and a number of rifles that already don’t see enough use dissuaded me.
However! A friend clued me in to the Savage 110 Tactical in 6mm ARC, and I rapidly saw the possibilities! I ordered one through the shop where I work, and began grabbing a number of items to set it up the way I want, new Lumley bolt handle, a threaded, 1” brass ball from McMaster Carr for a knob, and a Trident Dominator muzzle brake.
I already had a selection of rings and scopes on hand, so I “thought” I was in business, however the very real lack of any brass or ammo has me grounded for the moment. I was fortunate to find 100 pieces of Grendel brass from a friend back East, so now I’m getting ready for trimming, forming, and loading.
Really looking forward to getting this out to the local range, and stretching this puppy out!

Looking at Hornady Bullets
90GR ELDX. says 1-10" min recommended
and
103GR ELDX says 1-8" min recommended
80GR CX
85GR Interbond
90GR CX and
95GR SST
Have nothing about twist at all
I ordered my barrel with 1-7.5" twist because at the time I thought that was same as their test barrel. Should I have ordered something else ?
Again at the time I was planning on using Hornady 103GR ELDX factory loads, Now maybe try reloading if so it will be the CX 90Gr or some other lighter bullet
Thanks

Wondering on my cz527 only shooting out to 300yds max. most at 200yds or less and in south Alabama forested terrain what would you guys recommend for deer hunting from a stand. I currently have a Leupold VX-3I 1.5-5 x 20, a Leupold VX-Freedom 2-7x33 Hunt-Plex and a 3x9 not sure what make (came on the axisII rifle)
My eyes are not the greatest and at dusk it's a challenge to find the game but once I see it shot placement is easy.
My thinking is the 1.5x5, use 1.5 to acquire and dial up to 5 if needed. Last year I shot the 2x7 and had it on 2 most of the time, did dial up to 5ish on one shot at 220yds
Is there any reason to need the 3x9 that my friends all have ?
Thanks

Breaking in a new barrel ? |

Getting a new barrel from Pac-Nor and was looking at their break-in sheet. The range I go to doesn't allow cleaning while on a lane so I take an hour to shoot maybe 10 rounds to sight in take it home and clean then off to Alabama and hunting. While there last year I made 4 shots and went home to clean and put rifle in safe for next year.
How much will that affect the barrel and in time with the few shots I take at a time will the barrel slowly be broken in ?
Right now I have a cz557 in 6.5CM that has less than 20 rounds fired , a Savage axis II 6.5 CM with no rounds fired and will be getting the cz527 back around Dec. with zero rounds thru it. My plan is 1 rifle for hunting and 1 for backup and rotate each year unless I like that 527 too much. The Savage was going to be backup but now probably will go to a great grandchild (coming this year) if they follow their father into the field. It's a compact youth model
So will be rifles be affected by no formal break-in
Thanks
